10 Questions with Michael Rundel

1. Introduction: What's your story?

My name is Michael Rundel and I have been a professional DJ for over 25 years . Music is one of the most important things in life. It sets a mood, creates memories and can transform you back in time. It's so powerful that it can make you laugh, cry or sing out loud. Let me play the music that moves you! On average I DJ over 60 weddings a year.
I started out as a club DJ back in the 90's and have had the pleasure of spinning at many of the major clubs in the Detroit area. Some close friends had asked If I could be their wedding DJ and I've been a professional wedding DJ ever since. I most recently won WDIV's Best of Detroit 2021 Wedding DJ.

2. What's your experience as a wedding DJ? How many weddings have you done?

In my over 25 years of experience I know I've performed at many weddings but I lost track of the exact total years ago. I average 60-70 weddings a year so I believe Im over 1200 weddings in total.

3. How far in advance do couples need to book your services?

I would suggest couples start to book me at least one year in advance if not longer. I can get booked up pretty fast, It's normal for me to take bookings a year and half to two years out. I recommend booking all of your vendors in advance. You wouldn't want to take the chance on missing out on your favorite choices whether it's your DJ, Photographer, Florist or Hall.

4. What's your rate? What does that include?

My rates can vary depending upon the types of services and equipment needed. On average I can run anywhere from $1200 to $2000 for an evening. I take things into consideration like the number of hours needed and the size of the setup and number of setups needed. I also offer up-lighting packages.

5. Are you available to travel if needed?

I am always willing to travel to help make your day perfect. I'm usually local to the tri-county area but I'm willing to travel outside the normal area as well. I've also done weddings out of state.

6. How would you describe your style?

I was a club DJ for many years so I really like mixing. I play all styles and genres and am able to mix throughout them through the evening. I try not to leave anyone feel left out, mixing in and out of different genres helps keep the floor packed.

7. What's your backup plan if there's an equipment malfunction? Do you bring backup equipment?

I always have backup equipment on hand. Speakers, mixers and an extra laptop are always a must.

8. What's your sick day policy?

If for some reason I am unable to make it I have back up DJ's readily available to step in.

9. How do you motivate a shy crowd to dance? What do you do to motivate the crowd if nobody is dancing?

I'm very fortunate that I almost never have an issue with getting folks on the dance floor. I am not the DJ that will get on the dance floor and make silly announcements on the mic. I let the music do the talking. I'll find something that works and play off that.

10. What is your cancellation and/or refund policy?

I have a 30% non-refundable booking fee which goes towards your final invoice. The total invoice is never due until one month prior to the event. I am always willing to work with my couples if your wedding needs to be rescheduled. During Covid I did refund everyone that needed to cancel or move their wedding date. I didn't feel it was fair to keep a deposit when a cancellation was out of their control.
