10 Questions with Erin Morrison

1. Introduction: What's your story?

I was born and raised in Illinois and moved to the great southern state of Tennessee over 15 years ago. I picked up everything and everyone I knew and moved to a completely new state. I was in my first semester of Graduate School in Illinois and I hated it. I felt like everyone had moved on but me and this Enneagram Type 3 wasn’t having any of that. I applied to a bunch of graduate programs around the country and fell in love with The University of Tennessee (and the people) the minute I stepped onto campus. I came. I saw. I got a job and then my Master's Degree. And then I met a boy.

A pretty cool boy who became my husband. James and I met in the pre-Tinder days at a good ole bar (sorry mom and dad) and fourteen years later we are still together. In fact, we just celebrated our 12 Year Wedding Anniversary! And guess what? We have this super cute little girl together. Her name is Ella and she is officially the love of my life. I can say without a doubt that she makes me a better person.

I hear you thinking in your head, “Well, how did you become a photographer then?” The short story: I fell in love with my wedding photographers! I thought that what they did was pretty darn cool, and I felt like it would be the perfect creative outlet for me. I talked James’ ear off for almost a solid year before he surprised me with my first camera. The longer story: I transitioned from a hobbyist to an associate photographer to a professional photographer.

2. How long have you been shooting weddings? How many weddings have you photographed?

My first wedding was in 2012, and in my 10 years of experience, I have photographed well over 300 weddings.

3. How would you describe your photography style?

I think that the best way describe my photography shooting style is "honest." I just want to be present and capture what is occurring naturally between the wedding couple. I want happy couples to be happy, and quiet couples to be quiet. I don't want to pressure any couple to alter their wedding day because of me.

My editing style definitely alters the greens and the yellows in the coloring while also keeping skin tones as natural as possible. I have always loved the deeper and darker green colors and that is evident in my editing.

4. How well in advance should couples book their wedding photographer?

I frequently close my yearly calendar about halfway through the year. I recommend that couples reach out to me immediately. Saturday weddings book up quickly. As just a scheduling note, the only thing that I book on Saturdays is 8-hour wedding days.

My engagement and elopement calendar for The Great Smoky Mountains also fills up quickly.

My peak booking dates are between April and November, and October fills up first. Those East-Tennessee colors in the fall are highly sought after.

As just a scheduling note, the only thing that I book on Saturdays is an 8-hour wedding day.

5. What are the different packages that you offer and which one is your most popular package?

I offer a variety of services depending on the event and the date! I photograph engagement and family sessions locally ($525) and travel into the Smokies many times a month ($650-900+). I also provide elopement services ($1600), weekday wedding services ($3150), and Saturday wedding services ($4200).

6. Are you the wedding photographer who will be shooting on the wedding day? Who else is there in your team?

No matter which session or service you book with Erin Morrison Photography, you will always get Erin Morrison as the lone photographer or one of two photographers. I never outsource my services to associates or second shooters. For family, engagement, and elopements, I will always be the photographer. For weekday weddings and Saturday weddings, I bring a second shooter with me! I have an amazing team of second shooters who frequently work with me.

7. Do you charge a travel fee? For what distance? What does that cover?

I do not travel more than 3 hours away from my home base in Knoxville. Any service outside of 2 hours will charged a $150+ travel fee.

8. Are albums or prints included in your packages?

Albums and prints are not included in my packages but are available for purchase through the client's gallery.

9. How long after the wedding will the couple receive the images? How will they be delivered?

I deliver the images 4-6 weeks after the wedding or session date.

10. What is your cancellation and/or refund policy?

All cancellation and refund policies are provided in contracts and are specific to the session or wedding.
