10 Questions with Rachel Leintz

1. Introduction: What's your story?

In a previous life, I worked as a crime scene investigator for the Phoenix and Mesa Police Departments, were I learned the physics of light and the science behind photography.

But having my newborn son, Wyatt, at home during my long homicide call-out schedule wasn’t a good fit. So in 2014, I took the leap, the plunge, the dive! into the artistic world of photography and haven’t looked back.

Other than being obsessed with finding dramatic light, I spend my time mapping out all the new Raising Canes Chicken Finger locations in Arizona, drooling over Willamette Valley wines, gobbling up ANYTHING my chef-of-a-husband cooks, and geeking-out over the magic that is the Zelda Breath of the Wild, for Nintendo Switch (yes, I’ve been a closet nerd my entire life).

2. How long have you been shooting weddings? How many weddings have you photographed?

I’ve been a wedding photographer for about 9 years now, and I’ve shot over 100 weddings. I mainly shoot in Arizona, but I’ve traveled to Mexico, California and Hawaii for destination weddings. A few years back, I was fortunate enough to shoot an editorial in Ireland, in an honest-to-goodness Irish castle. It was simply magic.

3. How would you describe your photography style?

My shooting style is editorial and fashion-inspired, with a dash of surrealism. I’m obsessed with directional light and the magic of backlighting. I also do all my own post processing, mainly because I love creating composites for my couples. I see weddings as the only real ceremonial tradition we still have in our modern world, so I feel like they should be captured like the big deal they are! Wedding photography should be glamorous, stunning, jaw dropping art. And that’s what I create for my couples.

4. How well in advance should couples book their wedding photographer?

Arizona is an interesting location for weddings, unlike the rest of the country, summer ya typically our slowest month because people don’t like getting married in an oven ?I book most of my weddings 8-12 months out and my busiest months are March, April, October and November. Because of the craziness of 2020, my October was the busiest yet (6 weddings in one month!)

5. What are the different packages that you offer and which one is your most popular package?

I have 4 collections my couples can choose from. My Glam collection is my post popular booking. It’s priced at $3500 and includes 8 hours of coverage, an engagement session, professional post processing as well as all final high res files, and an online gallery.

6. Are you the wedding photographer who will be shooting on the wedding day? Who else is there in your team?

I pride myself on helping my couples look and feel like movie stars on their wedding day. I give direction throughout the entire day. I’m not a fly on the wall, I’m the professional you hire to create magic. I shoot all my client weddings. I’m the lead photographer and don’t contract out to other shooters. I usually shoot solo - no need for a second shooter - but I do always bring along a lighting assistant to help create stunning lighting.

7. Do you charge a travel fee? For what distance? What does that cover?

I travel nationally and internationally for weddings. National weddings are charged and additional $2000 for travel and lodging. International travel is customized and is based on the amount of time and accommodations available. Typically, I work with my couples to keep the cost as low possible.

8. Are albums or prints included in your packages?

Yes, I offer Couture Book albums as well as prints with my Lux Collection, but the albums and prints can be added on to any other collection.

9. How long after the wedding will the couple receive the images? How will they be delivered?

I do all my own retouching. I’ve trained under the guys that do editing for Vogue and Elle Magazine, so I know my stuff! That includes skin softening, blemish removal, liquefying, you name it. I go through and cull all my galleries, so my couples don’t have to worry about picking through thousands of images. I give my couples all final high res files on a USB and as a Dropbox link. Post processing and delivery takes between 60-90 days

10. What is your cancellation and/or refund policy?

With the current pandemic, I work with my couples as much as possible if rescheduling or cancellations are necessary. Typically, I require a $500 deposit and the final remaining balance can be paid in installments up to one week prior to the wedding.
