10 Questions with Natalie Remington

1. Introduction: What's your story?

My name is Natalie Remington, and I was inspired to start my wedding business when my husband Chris and I eloped in 2012. We were very poor at the time and could find no place affordable in Kansas City. I was so sad about that because I was so in love and wanted a magical day that was a beautiful outside and I felt inside. It bothered me for a long time afterwards as well. So, I decided to do something about it. I took classes online at Christian Leaders College and got my Diploma of Ministry. Then I started my wedding business, Your Magical Day. It started on the wall in my townhome with a curtain rod, beautiful white sheer curtains and I decorated the top with a lot of white flowers and fairy lights. I advertised in Craigslist and started getting couples. My price was so low that I actually got a lot of business. Soon, it got so big I was able to rent a retail space and it just kept growing from there. I then got the idea to make it more of a "Vegas" type of chapel, with different rooms and walk in weddings and boy, did that ever pay off! I really wanted to offer something that poor people could afford that would be beautiful and make their day as special as I wanted for myself, and I think I might just have done that :)

2. What's your experience as a wedding officiant? How many weddings have your officiated?

At this point it has been well over 5000. We do at least 1000 weddings per year. The judges don't offer courthouse weddings in our area, so all those couples come to us. We are very happy the judges don't do them!

3. How far in advance do couples need to secure your services?

They can come the same day or book up to a year in advance.

4. How would you describe your officiant style?

Short & Sweet. We have a 5 minute ceremony and have never had a single complaint about it. Honestly, it is a very sweet ceremony. I wrote it the way I would have liked my ceremony to have been worded. I also thought about how, if I had a bunch of guests sitting there, they would feel. I know nobody really wants to sit through a long ceremony. Truthfully, they want to get to the reception or party afterwards! The couple, in general, doesn't like to stand up there in front of everyone, or even by themselves staring at each other. They usually feel uncomfortable, shy or stressed out. So believe it or not, 5 minutes is the perfect amount of time to say "I Do", get in the ring exchange, say some profound things about love and pronounce them married. If couples come to my chapel alone, I always take a ton of photos for them afterwards in all of our 3 rooms and I have a bubbly personality, so I really love my job and am always so happy for them!
