10 Questions with Erin Gobin

1. Introduction: What's your story?

I've always had a passion for design and creative thinking. In fact, when I graduated from college with a degree in Advertising, I had every intention of making my career as an art director. And that's exactly what I did... for one whole year! After my first painful experience with corporate cutbacks, I began to work in marketing but my favorite job function was still graphic design.

As fate would have it, five years later I befriended a makeup artist in my apartment building who was starting to get very busy with weddings and asked if I'd be interested in learning some simple techniques and becoming her assistant. Lo and behold, the principles of makeup artistry and hair styling are no different than graphic design, and I picked up the skills very quickly. My understanding of balance, proportion, contrast, and focal points... in other words my EYE for beauty - is what makes me great at what I do. Combined with my expertise in product knowledge and technique, these skills have made me one of the most sought after artists in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex.

Eight years later I left my corporate America marketing career behind to solely focus on my hair and makeup studio. Not only have I broadened my skill set, I've also assembled a fantastic team to work along side me and to meet the needs of my clients when I can't be available. But the time spent in the corporate world was far from a waste of time. It prepared me with the knowledge to run a successful business with courtesy and professionalism.

Working with brides doesn't feel like work to me at all. I get a great sense of satisfaction from helping a bride discover the most beautiful version of herself. Of all the elements that go into designing a beautiful wedding, mine is the most important. After all, the bride is the centerpiece of the whole affair! I live for those "gasp!" moments when the bride sees herself as a bride for the first time, especially when those gasps are followed by happy, overwhelmed tears. There is nothing better than discovering your true passion and making a living at it!

2. What's your experience as a bridal hair & makeup artist? How many brides are in there in your portfolio?

I've specialized in bridal hair and makeup since the very beginning. My very first job as a makeup artist was at a wedding in 2004. I have worked with hundreds of brides since then - many of which you will see in our extensive bridal portfolio.

3. What are the different packages that you offer and which one is your most popular package?

All of our pricing is ala carte since very wedding has unique needs! Generally speaking bride's services are $150-$200 per service (a service being either a makeup application or hair style) and bridesmaids are $95/service.

4. Do you have a team of assistants or will you be the only artist that day? What will happen if you're sick or have an emergency on the wedding day?

My company includes a large team of artists, including several senior-level lead artists. We typically work in teams of 2-4 but for our largest bookings we've had as many as six artists working simultaneously. In the rare case of an emergency - because sometimes life does happen - we've always been able to substitute in another equally qualified artist when needed.

5. Do you charge a travel fee? For what distance? What does that cover?

We include travel on site within 45 minutes of the artist's starting location, which generally covers most areas in the DFW metroplex.

6. Can the bride book a wedding makeup trial appointment and will you also do a trial before the wedding?

We highly encourage brides to have a practice run (or "trial") prior to the wedding day! Some opt to do their trial prior to booking, and others prefer to wait until closer to their wedding date. Either is fine with us!

7. What beauty products do you use and would you be open to the bride using her own make-up?

We use a variety of professional brands that offer the highest level of performance while also delivering our signature "soft glam" bridal look that is full coverage, satiny and glowy yet never thick or cakey! If a bride needs us to use her own products due to alergies or just due to her personal preference, we are open to it but we cannot guarantee performance or longevity in this case.

8. How can you make the bride's wedding makeup last and look good in photos?

A combination of professional products, placement and technique combined with more than 15 years of experience. Photographers recommend us because we delivery consistently beautiful results that look great both in person and in pictures and don't require extensive retouching!

9. How long will makeup take on the day and how long will you be staying for on the day?

About an hour and a half per person. Most bookings are completed in 4-6 hours with multiple artists working simultaneously when needed.

10. What is your cancellation and/or refund policy?

In the case of a force majeure, we allow brides to reschedule to a new date for no additional charge. In the case of a complete cancellation all funds paid in advance are nonrefundable and an administrative/cancellation fee may apply.
