10 Questions with Lashawn Lester

1. Introduction: What's your story?

Hey, I’m Lashawn Lester, founder, and lead DJ at Zoomified Entertainment. I initially started DJing in 2007 for school. I put in countless hours learning how to mix songs properly, dmx lights, and offer great customer service. My love for weddings started around 11 years ago when some of my party clients began to book me for weddings.

2. What's your experience as a wedding DJ? How many weddings have you done?

I have a lot of experience as a wedding DJ. I have been part of over 180 weddings.

3. How far in advance do couples need to book your services?

I would say to a potential client to book me as soon as possible. My dates tend to go fast and I have had clients book me up to two years in advance. I always say, "book early to avoid disappointment."

4. What's your rate? What does that include?

I currently have three tiers that you can choose from. I have a Silver, Gold, and Platinum tier. The Silver package is $800.00 for 4 hours and includes the following...Fully Interactive Local DJ, Two EV Loudspeakers, Two Subwoofers, One Wireless Handheld Microphone, Atmospheric Lighting, and Unlimited Consultation. The Gold package is $1100.00 for 4 hours and it includes everything from the Silver package plus One Wireless Lapel Microphone, Two Moving Heads / Intelligent Light Fixtures, and Two LED Truss Towers. The Platinum package is $1700.00 for 5 hours and it includes everything from Gold Package plus a Custom Gobo, Ten + Uplights, and Cocktail Hour. Other possible add-ons include Dancing on the Cloud and Cold Sparks.

5. Are you available to travel if needed?

I am open to travel if needed by the client. The only barriers for a flight would be access to equipment and/or checking in the equipment for flight. I am also open to driving to any wedding within 6 hours.

6. How would you describe your style?

My style of DJing would include reading the dance floor and guests involved. I play all genres of music and I have an appreciation for mixing oldies with newer hits. Line dances are played for the enjoyment of all guests.

7. What's your backup plan if there's an equipment malfunction? Do you bring backup equipment?

Yes, I have backup Macbooks, turntables, speakers, micphones and lights. I pride myself on expecting the unexpected.

8. What's your sick day policy?

I have a team of DJs that would be capable of carrying out the event. I also travel with an extra DJ to the event just in case something was to happen.

9. How do you motivate a shy crowd to dance? What do you do to motivate the crowd if nobody is dancing?

This is a tough one to answer due to the different variables of the wedding. I would initially change the music, put on a line dance, or something of that nature. Sometimes guests just don't want to dance, but they are having a good time. I try to read the room to see what types of songs/genres people are vibing to. Overall, I tend to know what types of songs will make any guest enjoy. I also use a wedding form from my CRM that I invite the Bride and Groom to share with guests so I can at least have one song from each guest that they will like.

10. What is your cancellation and/or refund policy?

The company accepts payment in the form of cash, debit/credit card, or check (made payable to Lashawn Lester). A deposit in the amount of 25% of the package total will be required to lock in and hold the date. The balance is due (2) days prior to the event. You, the client do hereby agree to pay the total contract amount for the entertainment services of the Company. The original date and retainer fee are non-refundable/non-transferable. Changing to a new date requires a new retainer fee and the signing of a new contract. I turn away all potential clients the moment your date has been secured. The agreement of the Company to perform is subject to accidents, epidemics, acts of God, or any other legitimate condition beyond their control. If such circumstances arise, all reasonable efforts will be made by Company to find replacement entertainment at the agreed-upon fees. Should Company be unable to procure a replacement, the client will receive a full refund. In the event of overtime, each hour of overtime will be billed at the standard quoted rate. Cancellation must be done by certified mail and will only be accepted by the person(s) who signed the contract. Cancellations less than 30 calendar days prior to the event date will require total payment of contract price to be due. To avoid legal actions, payment must be received no later than 7 calendar days from the date that notice of cancellation is received. If the client fails to make payment within the time specified, a late fee of $100 will be charged and added to the balance owed. Interest will accrue at the current maximum rate allowed by Tennessee law until the balance is paid in full and is subject to further legal actions. Should I have to bring a suit or otherwise spend time trying to collect the amounts due to me under this Agreement, you will also be responsible for the cost of collection, court costs, and reasonable attorney fees. By signing our signatures below, both parties (Company and Client) agree to these contract terms and conditions.
