10 Questions with Heather Hanson

1. Introduction: What's your story?

Hi! I'm Heather Hanson, and I started apprenticing as a wedding photographer for a colleague while studying journalism at the University of Minnesota. I was instantly drawn in to the intimacy of photographing couples and the candid moments that happen during the wedding day. More than ten years later, I am still in love with capturing the stories of each couple I have the pleasure of working with!

I’ve worked hard to define my photojournalistic style, calming presence, and artistic vision. If you're interested in working with me, I'd love to meet you! Reach out to me via email [email protected] or hit me up via www.HeatherHanson.photography

2. How long have you been shooting weddings? How many weddings have you photographed?

2021 Will be my twelfth year photographing weddings. Altogether, I've photographed over 300 couples!

3. How would you describe your photography style?

I describe my style as environmental portraiture. Trained as a photojournalist, I combine elements in the physical space I'm in with candid moments between you and your loved ones. I love to capture the natural emotion we present when we let down our guard. I pose my clients, then prompt them to capture those natural reactions. I also pay attention to detail and anticipate moments, always clicking with intention.

4. How well in advance should couples book their wedding photographer?

Popular dates book fast, so it's important to book the photographer you want as soon as you have a venue set. Clients come to me at different stages in their planning, so I've been booked two years in advance for large weddings, and I've been booked weeks in advance of an elopement. The average is about 14 months though for couples who want to use their engagement photos as "Save the Date"s.

5. What are the different packages that you offer and which one is your most popular package?

6. Are you the wedding photographer who will be shooting on the wedding day? Who else is there in your team?

I own my business and am the sole photographer. If you hire me, you will get me!

7. Do you charge a travel fee? For what distance? What does that cover?

I charge mileage ($0.55/mile) for weddings 50 miles past the Twin Cities, MN. I also travel to destinations such as California, Oregon, Washington, Hawaii, Belgium, France, etc. -- these national and international destinations require a flight fee and accomodations. Hit me up with your questions -- I am always willing to travel!!

8. Are albums or prints included in your packages?

My Rose Gold Photo Package ($5250) includes 12-spread deluxe album, 12" x 12" with acrylic and/or leatherette cover and layflat pages + 50 printed press cards

My Platinum Photography Package ($8250) includes a photo guest book + 18-spread deluxe album, 12" x 12" with acrylic and/or leatherette cover and layflat pages

I also offer several a la carte options for wall art, parent albums, and other prints!

9. How long after the wedding will the couple receive the images? How will they be delivered?

My clients can expect to receive their wedding photos via digital gallery around 6 weeks from their wedding date. It does depend on the season (November - March weddings may see a quicker turnaround).

10. What is your cancellation and/or refund policy?

In the unfortunate event that the wedding is canceled or postponed, all fees and deposits paid are nonrefundable. Should the Client otherwise fail to perform under the contract, the full amount due under this contract will become immediately due and payable as liquidated damages. Client acknowledges that the amount of the fees and deposits paid shall be liquidated damages in the event of breach, because the actual amount of the Studio’s damages would be difficult or impossible to determine.

That being said, I have been very flexible with moving deposits to new dates in the wake of the pandemic. I will always try my best to work with and accommodate my couples.
