10 Questions with Meagan Gaines

1. Introduction: What's your story?

Hey there! I'm Meagan Gaines. My husband and I were gifted at our wedding, and it changed our lives. We were both teachers, but two years after getting married, I quit my teaching job to be a full time wedding photographer, and my husband quit his teaching job the following year to join me. We have photographed almost 200 weddings at this point. We absolutely love our "job". We love getting to be creative, meeting new people, and doing whatever we can to make their wedding day fun and stress free and capture their love authentically. When we're not shooting, you can find Joe and I playing with our rescue dog, Sadie, reading books at a coffee shop, or shopping at a thrift store.

2. How long have you been shooting weddings? How many weddings have you photographed?

My husband and I have been shooting for 5 years now, and we've shot almost 200 weddings.

3. How would you describe your photography style?

Our style is authentic, warm, deep rich colors. We do lots of prompts with our couples to give them some guidance but to be able to capture genuine connections and emotion. We strive to make the experience of having your photo taken fun, stress-free, and memorable. We love natural light, movement, and warmth.

4. How well in advance should couples book their wedding photographer?

We book up to two years in advance, so the sooner the better. That's not to say that if you message us a year or less in advance, we won't have your date free, but just that it's a possibility that we won't, especially if it's a popular weekend in peak season. Weekends of course book up faster than weekdays. October through May is our busy season with October and November being the busiest.

5. What are the different packages that you offer and which one is your most popular package?

I offer three main packages ranging from 6 to 10 hours. Our most popular package is our middle package, which includes 8 hours and an engagement session. All of our packages include two shooters as my husband and I work together. We can, however, do smaller custom packages for elopements and micro weddings. We offer albums as an add-on option. Our prices range between $2,000 and $4,000.

6. Are you the wedding photographer who will be shooting on the wedding day? Who else is there in your team?

My husband and I shoot every wedding together. We split up during getting ready time, so that we don't miss anything, and we tag team the rest of the day.

7. Do you charge a travel fee? For what distance? What does that cover?

We do not charge travel fees for local weddings (including the surrounding area). If we have to stay overnight, we add on the hotel fee (and the flight fee if applicable). We love to travel and shoot at new locations. We've shot in several states.

8. Are albums or prints included in your packages?

We offer albums and prints as add-ons.

9. How long after the wedding will the couple receive the images? How will they be delivered?

You will receive sneak peek photos within 48 hours of the wedding, and then the full gallery will be delivered in 3-6 weeks. It will be delivered as your own personal online gallery where you can "heart" your favorites, download photos, order prints, and share with friends and family.

10. What is your cancellation and/or refund policy?

We are flexible with clients rescheduling if something happens outside of their control. Deposits are non-refundable as that goes to cover us holding the date and then usually the engagement session.
