10 Questions with Aimee Alt

1. Introduction: What's your story?

Hi, I'm Aimee Alt, founder and lead makeup artist for Aimee Nicole MUA, LLC.

Growing up I was involved in activities like cheerleading and dance, and would have to wear makeup for competitions, so I was already wearing makeup at a young age. I also had an aunt growing up who loved everything beauty, and she sold MaryKay products. I couldn't wait for the next opportunity to go to her house so that I could help her with her business.

I would put together mock parties, put product bags together, organized her inventory, etc. However, it wasn't until 2015 that I really fell in love with it. At this point in my life I was struggling with severe anxiety, and depressive episodes, and I was using makeup as a coping mechanism.

I was enrolled at my local community college full time while I worked 3 jobs to afford school. Soon later I realized that not only school, but the path I was going toward (nursing) wasn't for me anymore. I made the decision to withdraw from my classes early, quit 2 of my jobs, and started working full time for an assisted living facility to see where life took me. I would work 9am-5pm, come home and practice makeup from 5pm-10pm, every single day.

I eventually became good at doing my own makeup, and started posting photos of my makeup looks online. I started getting amazing feedback and support, but it wasn't until 2016 that I did my first wedding. It was my coworkers sisters' wedding, and they trusted me enough to do everyone's makeup. That was the day I knew I wanted to make it my career. That was the day I fell in love with doing other people's makeup, and that was the day that started it all really. Since that day, I have been able to glam well over 200+ people for their weddings, and hundreds of other clients. I was able to go full time with makeup in 2018, and turned my hobby into a career.

They say do what you love, and you'll never work a day in your life. I find this to be so accurate for me, and I finally feel like I have found my purpose.

In 2021 I started my own makeup team of artists who are available to step in to service clients when I may be booked or unavailable. They are all extremely talented and also trained by me! I hope to always be a friend and mentor to those artists still learning and perfecting their craft.

2. What's your experience as a bridal hair & makeup artist? How many brides are in there in your portfolio?

I did my first wedding in 2016, and have serviced over 200+ couples!

3. What are the different packages that you offer and which one is your most popular package?

I have 1 main LUXE Wedding Package, and 1 Elopement Package. My LUXE Wedding Package is the most popular.

4. Do you have a team of assistants or will you be the only artist that day? What will happen if you're sick or have an emergency on the wedding day?

I do have a team! Aimee Nicole Pro Team is consisted of inclusive, diverse, and talented artists who are available to book on their own or when I am booked or unavailable. I have never missed a wedding in the 6 years I have been doing weddings for any type of emergency or sickness. However, if for some reason I cannot be there, I will give immediate notice to the client. Then I will see what artists on my team are available, and whoever is would be sent to finish the job onsite. If client is not comfortable with another artist, I will issue a refund that is appropriate for services rendered.

5. Do you charge a travel fee? For what distance? What does that cover?

The first 30 miles outside of my zip code (21201) are complimentary, all miles after that are calculated at the rate of $0.58 per mile round trip. All parking, tolls, etc, should be covered by the client.

6. Can the bride book a wedding makeup trial appointment and will you also do a trial before the wedding?

Makeup trials are a must! They are highly recommended to my clients, and are included in my LUXE Wedding Package. Once the trial date has been scheduled, client will pay half of trial cost ($75), and the second half of appointment cost ($75) will be due same day as trial appointment. Trial cost is a total of $150. They can be scheduled before or after booking your wedding with me, however wedding dates are not saved with me unless I have a signed contract and deposit in hand.

7. What beauty products do you use and would you be open to the bride using her own make-up?

For the most part I use all high end, luxury beauty products for my clients. I would be open to going over the brides normal routine and products, however, I would be opposed to using the same products out of fear of me not knowing how they preform or how everything will look for photos. Also, it is not sanitary. If the bride has any skin allergies, or concerns we would go over that prior to her appointment/trial/wedding.

8. How can you make the bride's wedding makeup last and look good in photos?

Good makeup always starts with good skin, so no matter what steps I take, having realistic expectations result in fewer disappointments. A few things go into the longevity of a makeup application. Good tips and tricks are to use good skincare prep, a good primer, good setting powder, and a good setting spray. All of these things go hand in hand for a long lasting makeup application! My makeup application has lasted anywhere from 8-22 hours!

9. How long will makeup take on the day and how long will you be staying for on the day?

If we are talking wedding timelines, I block off an hour per attendee/wedding party guest, and an hour and a half for the newlywed. We arrive onsite 15-30 minutes early to set up, and leave 15-30 minutes after finishing time for clean up and touch ups! I also have an additional hour of touch ups included in my LUXE Wedding Package.

10. What is your cancellation and/or refund policy?

If a client or couple(s) cancels after they have paid their retainer, and it is more than 30 days away from their event date, they would only lose their non refundable retainer. If client or couple(s) cancel less than 30 days away from their event date, they will still owe the full remaining balance due. In my 6 years of doing weddings I have never missed or had to cancel a wedding on my behalf. However, god forbid I did, I would immediately give notice to the client. I would look into the availability of the artists on Aimee Nicole Pro Team, and would hope to send one of them in replace of me. If client or couple(s) do not want another artist, I will issue an appropriate refund for services rendered.
