Planning a wedding in Indianapolis is an exciting process that leaves couples spoiled with choice for a beautiful wedding venue that perfectly reflects the style and personality of the couple. To get the most memorable experience that will be cherished for a long time, it pays to carefully consider what every location has to offer.

Weddings in Indianapolis

Indianapolis is full of culture, excitement and scenic beauty that adds uniqueness to every wedding hosted there. Featuring one of the world’s largest children’s museums, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, where the Indy 500 is held annually, art museums and history centers, this city offers venues that make a statement like no other. The beautiful landscape, which incorporates rugged hills and flat rolling plains coupled with elegant architecture, creates the perfect backdrop to capture the beautiful memories of your day.

Popular Wedding Venues

Couples who’ve taken advantage of this beautiful city as their wedding destination favor venues such as the Sanctuary of Penn. This is a historic wedding venue which houses both a church and many spaces to hold your reception.

The Cyrus Place, which was recently restored and transformed into a beautiful venue, is another historic building nestled Downtown that couples love.

For rustic and industrial charm, the Mavris Arts and Event Center, with its stylish modern speakeasy and classic brick architecture, stuns as a wedding venue. The Montage offers an excellent option for those wanting an open-air ceremony with a beautiful view of the lake. For luxury and style, the impressive marble columns at Pipers at the Marott shine.

Wedding Cost & Types of Venues

In 2019, Wedding Report Inc recorded couples in this city spend an average of $28,440 to cover their wedding costs. These weddings had an average of 128 guests, with venues costing approximately $4775. The weather in Indianapolis had most people choosing to have their ceremonies indoors using either a religious building or a historic building.

There are, however, a wide variety of venues for couples to choose from. Vineyards, private and public gardens, and country clubs are available for those looking to enjoy a romantic day outdoors for their wedding.  Those wanting to stay in the hustle and bustle of it all can choose from the banquet halls, historic buildings, museums, and hotels Downtown. Weddings in barns that facilitate that casual vibe are trendy, and barns also provide that rustic theme that many couples may seek.

Indianapolis Weather Condition

Harsh temperatures and severe weather conditions define Indianapolis’ climate. Therefore, it’s not surprising that The Knot records October as the most popular month for marriages and fall, the most popular season. This is mainly because of the cool temperatures experienced at this time, with a high of 66°F and low of 47°F, the blue skies, and the low humidity level.  This is also the perfect time for those desirous of having an outdoor wedding. The second most popular season for hosting a wedding is in the summer. However, this time is mostly associated with indoor weddings, which are shielded from the hot and humid weather outside, which brings highs of 88°F and lows of 66°F. Many couples also enjoy the spring, with temperatures averaging 54°F. However, during this time, couples must be prepared for the rain and a few storms. Winters are brutal and harsh, and hence only 6% of weddings are held at this time.

Guest Accommodation

Indianapolis highway system provides easy access for the nearby out-of-town guest, while those from further distances can fly in and then make it Downtown with an express bus, taxi, or ride-sharing apps like Lyft or Uber. Guests staying Downtown may not need to rent a car as everything is within walking distance, and in any case, there are public buses available.

However, if your venue is outside the city, a vehicle may be necessary, although you could also hire a shuttle for your guests’ convenience and safety. Consider booking room blocks at several hotels that offer different prices at locations near your venue to accommodate all your guests.

With the many options in hotels available to you, this should not be difficult as long as your date doesn’t coincide with a cultural celebration like the Indy 500. For more affordable accommodation options visit

Indianapolis has much to offer couples and their guests, and with the right planning, you will be able to have that unique wedding you’ve been dreaming of and pictures you will treasure for a price you can afford. So go ahead, plan your day, decide on your budget, and choose a venue and a date that suits you.
