10 Questions with Michael & Deanna

1. Introduction: What's your story?

I studied film in college, withe the lofty goal a becoming a movie director. I like the idea of figuring out the best angle and best lens for each situation, as well as piecing together unique story threads. After college, I worked for a production company that did everything from local TV commercials to 8mm film-to-DVD conversions. And, of course, weddings. It was in the latter task that quickly I found my creative outlet and professional niche. After a couple years of experience, I worked out a deal with my boss to purchase all the wedding contracts he had booked, and I formed my own wedding videography company.

2. How long have you been filming weddings? How many weddings have you filmed?

I started with another company in 2008, and I have been my own boss since 2011. In total, I've filmed just over 250 weddings!

3. How would you describe your videography style?

Personal. I want to bring out the story of how each couple fell in love, what makes them unique, and what’s going to keep them together. Sometimes those details emerge from the couple themselves during brief interviews I take with them early in the wedding day. Sometimes they come from the letters the bride and groom write to each other. Or a few of those important details can come out during the toasts. If the couple writes their own vows, that tends to be one of the best sources for gleaning the details of their love. I like to rely on several sources, if I can, to piece together that story. All of this is to say, to me, the story is just as important as the visual component.

4. How well in advance should couples book their wedding videographer?

As far in advance as you would book a photographer or venue. Our calendars fill up fast! Sometimes we'll still have your date available a couple months prior to its scheduled date, but don't count on it. If you want a trusted, experienced professional, start researching soon.

5. What are the different packages that you offer and which one is your most popular package?

We have a variety of options depending on your budget and how much video coverage you desire. Our Packages range from Bronze to Diamond, with our middle two packages being the most requested. Our Silver Package includes full wedding day coverage from Pre-Ceremony to Ceremony to the end of your Reception! Everything is filmed in 4k, two videographers will film your wedding all day, and a musical Highlight Video is included along with the full chronological capture. Our Gold Package is slightly more popular, as it contains a longer Highlight, aerial drone coverage, and Guest Testimonials.

6. Are you the wedding videographer who will be filming on the wedding day? How many camera people and cameras will be operating on the day?

Yes, I am the lead videographer, and I film every wedding we book. Most of the time, my wife, Deanna, runs the second camera.

7. Do you charge a travel fee? For what distance? What does that cover?

We do not charge extra for travel, or taxes, or parking anywhere in the state of Indiana. Outside of Indiana, travel fees depend on the distance

8. How do you back-up your footage to ensure no footage is lost and for how long do you keep the footage after the wedding?

Immediately on the morning following your wedding, the footage will be uploaded to my computer. The original memory cards that contain the footage from your wedding will not be deleted until well after your finished video has been delivered. Once everything has been edited, your files will also be uploaded to a wedding video delivery website called WedFlow, where they will remain for ten years!

9. How long after the wedding will the couple receive the video? And how will the video be delivered?

It has never taken me longer than 4 weeks after the wedding day to deliver the finished product! I do this full time, so I am always editing something. Most deliveries happen 2-3 weeks after the wedding, but on occasion, they happen 1 week after! As mentioned in the previous question, the final product will be delivered digitally via WedFlow in full Blu-Ray quality, with the abilities to share your wedding link, download your own backup files, and even password protect your page!

10. What is your cancellation and/or refund policy?

Weddings may be canceled by the couple at any time for any reason for a refund minus the initial deposit (1/3 of the package price). Any payments made beyond the deposit will be returned to the couple. If for some reason I were to cancel (which has never happened), I would provide a full refund, including the deposit.
