10 Questions with Gabriella Sutherland

1. Introduction: What's your story?

Hey there! I'm Gabby, owner of Gabriella Sutherland Photography in Columbus Ohio. I live at home with my husband of 7 years (I got married at 18) and our 4 year old son Atticus! We are big fans of exploring new places and adventures, spending quality time together watching our favorite movies! I started picking up a camera in high school- I am now 25, self taught and owning my own business. I found out what I wanted to do early in life and went for it, with the support of my amazing husband. I am committed and driven, and have a habit of not putting down a project until I'm finished (who needs sleep anyway when you enjoy your work?)

I chose to specialize in weddings because I enjoy photographing couples. I love getting to hear the different life path’s people experience together and the tiny details that make up their special love stories. It makes my heart happy to know that my clients admire my work and trust me to capture the biggest day of their lives. Jesus is my rock and has been with me every step of the way in my life and my business. Without him, I wouldn't be where I am today and I want to honor him in my business and everything I do.

My goal as your wedding photographer is to give you not only beautiful photos to remember your big day, but to give you a full wedding vendor experience. I want you to know that I am there during your entire planning process to help answer questions and give advice, help you feel happy, supported, and important- and hopefully take a little stress off your planning! My professional experience in wedding photography, posing, detail placement, and more will help make your day memorable and enjoyable.

I love getting to travel and celebrate weddings from all over the map and offer travel to anywhere- I also have a special bucketlist of destinations where I might just waive the travel fee!

2. How long have you been shooting weddings? How many weddings have you photographed?

I have been in photography for 7 years and have been photographing weddings full time for 2. This is the beginning of our 3rd year in Ohio, and I decided to hone in and chase after my specialty dream (wedding photography) the moment we moved here. Before then, we lived in Kansas, where I did full time family and portrait photography. I decided I was done wishing on my dream and that I would go for it instead once we moved here. I jumped into meeting wedding vendors, getting recommended to local brides, and just jumping right in. By the end of my first year of doing wedding photography full time, I ended up getting published by Columbus weddings Magazine on their online blog- with the first wedding styled shoot I ever did. Fast forward to the end of my second year as a wedding photographer (2020) and I have been published in print 4 times by Northeast Ohio Weddings Magazine and Columbus Weddings Magazine and have a few awards in the wedding industry. I am incredibly thankful for the amount of love I have recieved being here for just a short amount of time, and I plan on continuing and booking more weddings as the word gets out more and more every year.

3. How would you describe your photography style?

Others have labeled my style as rustic, modern, dramatic, clean, and moody. I take every wedding location and couple’s style into consideration when I edit my photos. I have a base of slightly moody that I start with every time, while trying to keep the exposure and light up just enough so that you can still see faces illuminated. I enjoy saturating my greens and always add a clean, modern look to my photos.

4. How well in advance should couples book their wedding photographer?

I highly recommend booking your wedding photographer immediately after booking your venue- this is because aside from your venue, yoru photographer is the fastest to get booked. I recommend booking with me as soon as your ready- I have bookings that go out a year in advance.
My peak booking months are January-March and May-June. My saturdays are the fastest to get booked, following sundays, with august-october being the most popular (for good reason!)

5. What are the different packages that you offer and which one is your most popular package?

I offer 3 main package options, with my 4th being a special elopement package. My most popular package is my emerald package, which includes a complimentary engagement session, 6 hours of continuous wedding day coverage, a custom USB, and an online gallery with personal printing rights and full resolution download. My packages range from 2, 4, 6 and 8 hours, and I do not offer hourly pricing.

6. Are you the wedding photographer who will be shooting on the wedding day? Who else is there in your team?

I am a team of one and love working solo unless a bride requests a second shooter. I plan in advance with my wedding couple the timeline and talk about how long I recommend coverage for each category and cover every aspect of the wedding day. I like to start with details when I first arrive, taking photos of the invitation set, bouquet, jewelry, rings, and anything else the bride and groom provide me with. Every wedding day is unique and different and I always make sure to take in careful consideration my wedding couples requests and communicate clearly what they can expect from me on their big day.

7. Do you charge a travel fee? For what distance? What does that cover?

I am TOTALLY open for travel! I book weddings and elopements wherever they want me to go for their wedding day, and enjoy every minute of it. If the drive is within reason to my home base, I will usually drive to explore the scenery but also enjoy flying! I have a bucketlist of destinations for weddings where I offer a special price- this includes Washington, Oregon, Colorado, Rhode Island, Maryland, Iceland, and a few more.

8. Are albums or prints included in your packages?

I do not include albums and prints, as I like to allow my clients to print from wherever they prefer. I always offer recommendations on print and product companies.

9. How long after the wedding will the couple receive the images? How will they be delivered?

Sneak peaks of your engagement session/wedding day are within 48 hours. Your final engagement session gallery will be delivered to you within 2 weeks of your session date, and your wedding within 3 months. You receive an email from me with a link to your gallery, and delivery of your USB shortly after. You will get to choose what you would like on your engraving of the custom USB!

10. What is your cancellation and/or refund policy?

My retainer fee is 50% to book your wedding and is non-refundable, securing your wedding date. In the event of a cancellation where rescheduling is not an option, the contract will be cancelled and the retainer will not be refunded.
