10 Questions with Andi Zimmerman

1. Introduction: What's your story?

Hello there. I’m Andi Jo, but you can just call me Andi. I am a wedding photographer based in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

I am blessed to be married to the hardest working, not to mention most attractive, concrete finisher around. As cliché as it sounds I find true beauty in everything around me. Yes, I mean EVERYTHING. Even snotty kid noses.

I have an obsession for capturing real and raw moments that are both timeless and elegant. I live for the moments that aren’t rehearsed or posed. I love to spend time with my clients and make sure our bond is as strong as super glue. I cherish my brides and groom and always consider them my friends, not just a random face spending their wedding day with them.

My wedding style screams outdoors. I am all about natural light and there is no doubt about that. I have an obsession over DIY barn weddings, wide-open country fields, rustic boho atop a mountainside, and dreamy destination beach weddings. I am in love with both earthy tones and neutrals. I love brides that put their personality and flare into their best day ever. I love belly laughs and spirituality. I love tattoos and margaritas. God has blessed me with a pretty fabulous life if I may say so.

My wedding photography has been featured in numerous brands and publications, but the best recognition always comes from couples who feel that I have captured their stories and once-in-a-lifetime milestones in a way they can treasure forever.

Traveling is not only a hobby of mine but also an obsession. Going different places, be it the mountains, the ocean, the fields, or a rooftop in the busy downtown, I will be there. If you are planning a destination wedding, let's chat more about how to make that dream a reality. Although I am based in Minnesota I absolutely adore traveling more than anything and charge only minimal traveling fees. I would more than anything love to chat with you so please be sure to drop me a message in my inbox.

2. How long have you been shooting weddings? How many weddings have you photographed?

I started off my photography business photographing families and seniors, but I made the switch to weddings and engagements a little over 3 years ago. I photograph on average 10+ weddings a year.

3. How would you describe your photography style?

I would describe my photography style as light and airy with focus on real and raw moments. I love that my images are timeless and elegant and focus on all the little details.

I choose to shoot in a documentary style, meaning I like to capture the day like a story from start to finish. But it also involves more artistic elements, such as the art of posing couples in a way that's relaxed and natural rather than awkward. Even in moments that are planned and posed, I want real relationships to shine. I am always looking at reactions of those around me during a wedding day to capture intentional candids, so that emotion can be preserved through my photography. All of these elements work together, showcasing the details of a wedding day as they actually are.

4. How well in advance should couples book their wedding photographer?

The ideal time to book your wedding is roughly one year before your wedding date, give or take. You may even want to book 18 months in advance for first dibs on your ideal wedding date, especially if you want a prime holiday weekend, a special number date, or any Saturday in the summer.

My busy season is usually June through October. June and October being the busiest of months.

I usually say, once you know your wedding date/venue, reach out immediately to your photographer. This gives you the best opportunity to book and solidify your date.

This isn't to say, though, that couples with shorter engagements or more delayed planning are totally out of luck.

5. What are the different packages that you offer and which one is your most popular package?

I offer several standard collections that all include:

* One photographer
*Edited images with a release
* A complimentary engagement session
* Eight hours of coverage

My most popular package includes everything above, but also includes:
* Two photographers
* An heirloom wedding album

That being said, I know that these standard collections do not fit everyone's needs. So I also offer customizable packages as well.

6. Are you the wedding photographer who will be shooting on the wedding day? Who else is there in your team?

I love photographing my weddings with myself and a second photographer! That way every little part and detail of your wedding day is being captured. I love photographing weddings with a second photographer because it allows everyone to be fully present, and more seamlessly slip into the day to tell the story more authentically.

But, I also offer just one photographer packages as well, where you would work with just me.

7. Do you charge a travel fee? For what distance? What does that cover?

I do not charge travel fees for anyone under an hour's drive.

However, if you are more than that my expenses include:

Travel Expenses vary on the location:
Out of state:
-Hotel
-Flight
-Rental Car (if necessary)

Drivable Distance:
-Gas

This varies, depending on distance/location.

I am always open to travel!

8. Are albums or prints included in your packages?

My entry-level wedding and elopement collections only include high res edited files, but I have other collections that include a beautiful, leather-bound archival album from your wedding day.

I love going an extra step in helping clients curate their wedding day, and a high-quality album is a great option for this. The albums contain thick pages with stain-resistant, fine-photo surfaces. They are printed in high-density color by a professional lab. And I often get excited e-mails from clients when their book arrives! Even though they saw a digital proof before it went to print, it's just a different experience to hold such a substantial, beautiful depiction of their wedding.

Prints are always a la carte through my online galleries and can be ordered at any time!

9. How long after the wedding will the couple receive the images? How will they be delivered?

I typically deliver weddings in 4-6 weeks. The maximum time on any contract is 10 weeks.

I always love to share 5-10 edited sneak peeks within 48 hours of the wedding, and then deliver somewhere between 60-75 edited wedding photos per hour in an online gallery when I'm done. The photos are high res and you can download them directly from the gallery to share with friends or family. You can also order prints directly through the gallery if you want!

10. What is your cancellation and/or refund policy?

If something happens and you end up having to cancel your wedding, the deposit is non-refundable.

If you end up needing to move your wedding to a new date, and I am available, we can transfer the deposit to the new date, no problem.

If you move your wedding to a new date, and I am NOT available, you can either forfeit the deposit, OR I can hire an associate photographer to photograph the wedding in my place, and I will continue to edit the images myself in my same style. So you still get a Andi Jo Photography experience, just with a different photographer on the day of.

Overall, I understand that things happen, and I want to be as accommodating as possible.
