10 Questions with Katie Kihara

1. Introduction: What's your story?

I got my start in the beauty industry back in 2012 as the personal assistant to a major portrait photographer here in Seattle. I learned so much from her about how to run a business, finding your passion, and hard work. She also taught me how to do hair and makeup for her photoshoots! I fell in love with the subtle transformation in confidence that hair and makeup can bring! Its incredible how a red lip can truly transform someone from the inside out!

I still LOVE styling for photoshoots and events but our true passion here at KK is weddings. I and my team pride ourselves in specializing in Vintage and soft glam looks, but can also rock full glammed! We have worked with countless brides and bridal parties to achieve their perfect wedding day look.

I can talk about weddings all day long and am happy to be there every step of the way. I totally understand the pressures of such a big day, and wanting everything to be flawless! (I even did her own makeup for my 2017 wedding)

I am also a clean beauty artist. I truly believe that we should not have to sacrifice our health for our beauty! Clean beauty and natural skincare can be just as effective as their traditional counterparts.

2. What's your experience as a bridal hair & makeup artist? How many brides are in there in your portfolio?

I have worked with countless brides wanting countless looks. From 1940s starlet to elven inspired bridal, to futuristic themed. My favorite is natural glam or vintage looks!

3. What are the different packages that you offer and which one is your most popular package?

packages are available for brides and additional people. Including parents, flower children and bridal parties!

4. Do you have a team of assistants or will you be the only artist that day? What will happen if you're sick or have an emergency on the wedding day?

Here at KK hair and makeup, I have a team of three amazing artists that work with me. If you have a large party or a tight timeline it's always an option to have extra help on your big day. I have never missed a wedding due to illness or emergency but should something accrue I do have backups!

5. Do you charge a travel fee? For what distance? What does that cover?

I LOVE destination weddings! I have styled brides all over the place, from Oregon to Hawaii! if you are within the greater Seattle area there is a travel fee of $25. Outside Seattle, there will be a travel fee added on depending on the location, flights, hotels, tolls, and parking.

6. Can the bride book a wedding makeup trial appointment and will you also do a trial before the wedding?

Yes, we do offer both hair and makeup trials at an additional cost of $100 per service. We can hold these trials at our studio or in your home.

7. What beauty products do you use and would you be open to the bride using her own make-up?

We use top-of-the-line, professional makeup. We have spent years finding our favorite products that are best for weddings. These products must look good from a distance and close up, but also photograph well and be longwear!

8. How can you make the bride's wedding makeup last and look good in photos?

I've been working closely with photographers my entire career. Through research and experience,! I am confident that the products we use photograph beautifully!

9. How long will makeup take on the day and how long will you be staying for on the day?

Depending on the overall look we decide on it can take up to two hours for the bride and one hour per attendant for both hair and makeup on the day of your wedding. Of course, the more artists we have the faster it all goes! We are happy to stay for touch-ups for an hourly fee. And the bride will receive a lip touch-up kit.

We do recommend purchasing your lip color for all-day touchups and have a pressed powder on hand if your venue is outdoors or on the warmer side.

10. What is your cancellation and/or refund policy?

You may cancel your service at any time. Your deposit will not be refunded.

If cancellation occurs the day of the 4 weeks or after before your
wedding day then you are still required to pay 100% of the total balance.
