Description

I deliver authentic storytelling of your wedding day with several goals in mind – To be genuine, faithful to your personalities, and to document the bond you have with one other and convey a story that resonates in your heart. I’m here to share your love story through kick ass photos.

My work as straddles the cinematic and photojournalism genres. I’m obsessed with framing my subjects in light and shadow and incorporate it as an additional ‘character’ in your story. These elements create mood, depth, nuance, passion, mystery, contrast and harmony.

I draw inspiration from many talented Directors of Photography, including Stanley Kubrick (2001 Space Odyssey), Emmanuel Lubezki (The Revenant), Conrad Hall (Road to Perdition), Gordon Willis (The Godfather), Robert Elswit (There Will Be Blood) and my hero Roger Deakins (Blade Runner 2049).

I’ve traveled around the world in a backpack for 16 months, across America on a motorcycle thrice, I’m a private airplane pilot, military veteran, former tech executive, retired gymnast, occasional guitarist, sushi lover, an an amateur disc golf hack who is on a never ending quest to improve my dad jokes. I’m an Enneagram 7 – spontaneous, curious, optimistic, outgoing and adventurous. Lastly – never lost a game of Air Hockey. Ever.

Vendor Profile - Fitz Carlile

The kind of work I do within the wedding photography genre is very distinct - every image stands on its own as a thoughtful composition as if from a cinematic art house film or high-end commercial/editorial shoot. My color grading is immediately identifiable and unique - developed through years of studying color theory - uncommon today in a sea of 'presets' that other photographers purchase on the internet for they have no knowledge of how to build their own. I'm sure you've seen this when scrolling through Instagram and see a landscape of orange/browns or an overexposed pastel 'light and airy' appearance.
I am often described not as a 'wedding photographer' - but instead as an editorial/commercial photographer who shoots weddings. My compositions are often quirky, surprising, different. I always attempt to show a point of view that's uncommon and fascinating to the viewer.
If you're looking for something different - but timeless - then I'm your guy :) I confidently direct a scene, a pose, a group, the light, the shadow, all of it is built on 30 years of experience behind the lens. I'm obsessed with light and shadow and incorporate it as a character in your story. These elements create mood, depth, nuance, passion, mystery, contrast and harmony.
I draw inspiration from Stanley Kubrick, Emmanuel Lubezki (The Revenant), Conrad Hall (Road to Perdition), Gordon Willis (The Godfather), Robert Elswit (There Will Be Blood) and my hero Roger Deakins (Blade Runner 2049). My still photographer heroes include Henri-Cartier Bresson, Slim Aarons, Art Streiber, Annie Leibovitz & Mark Seliger.

FAQs

If you are interested having your wedding photos have the look and feel of a cinematic story telling experience, driven by photojournalism, strong portraiture, and a vibrant palate of colors, taken by an experienced photographer with 30 years behind the lens, you've found your guy.
I do not do video, I refer out video to my trusted partners with whom I've been working alongside of for years. They share the same cinematic photojournalism style and a similar color palate to that their is a common artistic relationship between still and video
It depends on a few things. If you have a small elopement or micro wedding, it may not be necessary, depending on how you plan your event. For more traditional weddings I always advise it - one photographer can only be in one place at one time, so if you and your partner are getting ready in different locations, there's a big reason right there to have a second shooter. Another set of eyeballs for your ceremony gives you peace of mind. And the second shooter is typically tasked to cover the cocktail hour and reception details while I'm doing Family Formals and the couple's portrait session. Lastly, in the very off chance that I fall ill and cannot be there, the 2nd shooter is your insurance policy that gives you peace of mind.
Absolutely! You will find that my work is not only consistent across the board, but I'm happy to provide different galleries from very different environments so you can see the range of my photography - I'm not a one trick pony who can only shoot in a specific style. There is a very defined style to my work, but my years of experience has also given me the opportunity to feel quite comfortable and creative in pretty much any environment.
You sure do. You also get an online gallery with a print ordering engine and my full attention if you are investing in an album - which I hope you do, because it is important to honor one of the most important days of your life in print, not on a hard drive :)

Most Beautiful Photos of our Wedding Day!

Fitz did the most amazing job shooting our wedding! Every moment of the wedding was captured beautifully, from getting ready, first look, family photo...s, ceremony, cocktail hour and the dance floor. We love Fitz's style and how he is so aware of the entire frame of the photo. He is so creative with his shots and we will forever cherish these photos. Can't thank him enough!
