10 Questions with Kevin Kienitz

1. Introduction: What's your story?

After getting my engineering degree and settling into my career I found myself getting interested in photography. I picked up my first camera and was instantly hooked. My first passion was street and landscape photography, but eventually that expanded into portraits as well. Fast forward a bit and an opportunity to photograph a coworker's wedding popped up which I loved and had a great experience shooting.

This got me to reach out to my other photographer friends who had already been doing weddings. I started shooting more with them and the more I did it, the more I loved it. Eventually I made the decision to branch out and I started booking my own weddings and I haven't looked back since!

2. How long have you been shooting weddings? How many weddings have you photographed?

I started photographing weddings in 2017. Since then I've been fortunate to photographed over 100 weddings all over the country.

3. How would you describe your photography style?

My style is a mix between in-the-moment, candid photography and artistic. Much of any wedding day is going to be documentary by nature. During these moments, where appropriate, I'll step in guide things to get great images while allowing your day to progress naturally. During the photo-centric parts of the day I focus on posing that doesn't "feel" like posing. Ultimately I want the two of you to have fun and be yourselves. This results in much more natural and authentic photos without your day feeling like a big photo shoot.

My shooting and editing style is also more true to life, vivid, and filmic - not bright and airy. I don't shy away from shadows and contrast, sharp light and a bit "mood".

4. How well in advance should couples book their wedding photographer?

The sooner the better. As of 2022 I've started capping the number of wedding I take each year to make sure I can provide the best experience possible to each couple. I book most of my wedding 8-14 months out, however it's not uncommon to have dates book closer to 24 months out as well.

5. What are the different packages that you offer and which one is your most popular package?

My weddings start at $3600. From there each wedding package is tailored to you and the things you value most.

Once you reach out we'll set up a time for call or video chat where I'll get to hear about everything you're imagining for your wedding day and I'll answer any questions that you have. Afterwards I'll send you a customized proposal based on our chat for you to review.

Most weddings include:

10 hours of photography with me as your primary photographer
A second associate-level photographer
An engagement session
Private online gallery for downloading your photos
High resolution digital files, without watermark
Color correction & standard retouching of all images

6. Are you the wedding photographer who will be shooting on the wedding day? Who else is there in your team?

Yes. I'm not a large studio so when you book with me I'll be your primary photographer on the day of your wedding. The second photographers who accompany me are highly skilled photographers in their own right and perfectly capable of photographing your day on their own. I also bring an assistant with me to most weddings to help hold lighting equipment and move gear, allowing me to focus more on getting amazing photos.

7. Do you charge a travel fee? For what distance? What does that cover?

I love to travel and have photographed weddings all over the country. If you're planning a wedding outside of the Chicago area I'd be happy to join you! Anything further than a two hour drive will have travel costs built into the proposal that you receive. All of my travel costs will be included in that, so there won't be any additional travel feels later on (so long as the venue doesn't change of course).

8. Are albums or prints included in your packages?

Albums are certainly an option and one most couples invest in. My albums are high quality and handmade to order by my supplier just outside of Nashville, then shipped to your door.

9. How long after the wedding will the couple receive the images? How will they be delivered?

After your wedding day, you'll receive a highlight gallery in about three days. The highlight gallery typically contains moments from throughout your day so you can start reliving moments right away. The rest of you wedding gallery can be expected in 6-8 weeks, depending on time of year. You'll receive your photos via an email with a link to your private gallery where you can view and download your photos. From your gallery you'll also be able to invite friends and family to the view, download, and order prints.

10. What is your cancellation and/or refund policy?

In order to reserve your date a non-refundable deposit of $1250 is required. The deposit reserves me and my time for your wedding date and as such requires that I turn away all other potential work as I have reserved that date for your event. The final balance is due 30 days prior to your event. In the event that you need to cancel, the deposit in non-refundable but any amounts paid beyond this will be refunded once I receive a completed and signed cancellation form that I'll provide you.
