10 Questions with Angela Womack

1. Introduction: What's your story?

Angela has a background in Fine Arts and has a degree in Graphic Design, which gave her a strong understanding of color theory, light, balance, and aesthetics in a more comprehensive way. Her education is what has cultivated her eye for detail and her precise application that has shaped her unique style. Working as a lead makeup artist and trainer for Laura Mercier cosmetics for over a decade, she has been trained personally by Laura Mercier and other global artists in the industry. Her makeup style is fresh, natural, and is in demand for her skill at bringing out clients main features without looking overdone. You can find her work published in magazines, featured on blogs or behind the scenes on commercial shoots; or working on Feature films as the head artist for actors such as Jerry O Connell and Kevin Pollack. She collaborates with some of the top designers for fashion shows from Saks Fifth Avenue and recently for Zac Posens Neiman Marcus event to doing the everyday women for special events and weddings.

How it all began:

As a young child my mother would scold me not to go through her makeup, so I would take anything I could get my hands on including Kool-Aid to look like I was wearing makeup. I remember getting sent to the bathroom at my Grandparent’s house for a time out and I decided to go through all of my Grandmothers makeup and nail polishes. I then proceeded to draw murals on the walls with all of the colors. Needless to say, my fascination with color and makeup started at an early age.

Personal Experience:

When my mother was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer, she went through Chemo and radiation therapy causing her to lose her eyebrows and hair. I remember how she just wanted to look normal with natural looking eyebrows although she had none. It was challenging bringing back natural glow back to her skin. She wanted to look her best despite the fact she didn’t always feel her best. The little things like eyebrows, blush, and a little bronzer made her feel more like herself. As I was going through this with my Mother and learning what ingredients were safe for her skin, I came across so many women that were going through the same thing. I realized this is a small way that I could help, and it showed me the impact that makeup artistry has.

2. What's your experience as a bridal hair & makeup artist? How many brides are in there in your portfolio?

While studying graphic design, I worked for several cosmetic lines and photography studios. I was styling hair and doing makeup artistry, working my way through college. Upon completing a degree in graphic design and after working as a graphic designer for a few years, I found that my true passion all along was makeup and hair artistry. I had an eye for detail and precise application that has influenced the artist that I am today.

Realizing my true passion, I had the opportunity to move from Sacramento to San Francisco for a training position with Laura Mercier cosmetics and I ended up working for them for about 14 years. Laura had taught me true artistry skills on how to create a flawless face and that beauty is in one’s uniqueness. It was here that I got the opportunity to work alongside celebrity artist Laura Mercier for Master classes. I loved her philosophies and techniques for making skin simply look beautiful. I’ve had the opportunity to work with so many talented Global Artists that travel the world sharing the beauty of different cultures and styles. I have many great mentors and I have been able to mentor and train other inspiring artists, and I feel very blessed for that.

With over 20 years under my belt we have narrowed down our weddings to no more than 40 a year so we can provide the best service possible specializing in luxury weddings. With over two decades of experience makeup artistry and has taught me that beauty is in our differences. My job is simply to give you suggestions that fit your personality, and add dimension to your natural beauty.

Now with over a decade of experience, I specialize in doing hair and makeup for weddings, special occasions, boudoir, commercial shoots, video, and makeup classes. I am active in the makeup and hair community, keeping up with current trends premiering at Trade Shows, Makeup Conventions and taking classes for continued education.

When I am not working I am most likely with my family, husband Dave or our dog Sonny, who both brighten my life everyday.

3. What are the different packages that you offer and which one is your most popular package?

Here are some of our packages listed below prices ranging from $750 to $1300.

Bridal Beauty is or most poplar package because it is preferred that I am behind the camera like I would for any shoot to make sure that the images will be perfect with no hairs in the face, sweat, shinny noses, or smudge lip stick etc as well as keeping an eye on the grooms appearance as well.

• Bridal Basic
On-Location Wedding Hair and Makeup for the Bride (including customized lashes, airbrush optional, eye mask and touch up kit).

• Bridal Beauty Package
Pre-ceremony Photo Session Assistance (the same service we provide on commercial shoots to ensure flawless photos. We’ll stay behind the photographer, watching for and fixing stray hairs, smeared lipstick and shiny noses), Pre-Ceremony Touchups.

• Pampered Bride Package

• Pre-Wedding Event Hair and Makeup

4. Do you have a team of assistants or will you be the only artist that day? What will happen if you're sick or have an emergency on the wedding day?

Yes I am so very blessed to work with an amazing bridal team that many have been with me for over 10 years that are a well oiled machines and share the same natural artist style as I do. They are the magic that make the whole bridal party look gorgeous and cohesive.

In the event that a particular Artist is unavailable or otherwise unable to provide contracted services, Angela Womack reserves the right to make appropriate substitutions. Complimentary trials will be given in these circumstances.

5. Do you charge a travel fee? For what distance? What does that cover?

I don't charge travel locally unless it takes Two (2) hours of round-trip travel time and thirty (30) miles of round-trip mileage per Artist is included with no additional fee.

For locations requiring travel beyond either of these amounts, a mileage fee of $1.00 per mile and a fee of $50 per hour per artist will apply. The travel fee will be determined by the Artist and applied to the invoice. For locations requiring 4 or more hours of round-trip travel per Artist, the client must provide overnight accommodations for the Artist(s) in addition to mileage and hourly travel fees. All costs for travel to a booked event are to be paid by the Client.

6. Can the bride book a wedding makeup trial appointment and will you also do a trial before the wedding?

Yes if you book in advance and have reserved your wedding date we encourage to do a preview session a month out of your wedding date so it is fresh in everyones minds. I require a preview session pre-wedding with exceptions when necessary, that way the day of your wedding we have finalized your look and there is no stress on makeup and hair. The bride can focus on family and friends and most importantly marring the man of her dreams.

7. What beauty products do you use and would you be open to the bride using her own make-up?

This is a fun question I love makeup and use lots of high quality brands and I am always adding to it. It maybe considered an obsession but I love checking out what is new in the industry and am constantly testing products out to add to my tried and true products I use. For professional lines Namies, Frends, Neigels or just conventions at the Makeup show etc...are my go to stores for Graftobian, Temptu, and Kett to name a few. I also love Laura Mercier of course, Bobbi Brown, Keihls, Marc Jacobs, and Chanel which are all in my kit. I have a lot more brands in my bag just depending on the job, the client and circumstances. For Brides I like to keep it Waterproof. I am not opposed to using the brides own makeup and could mix it with mine if seen fit.

8. How can you make the bride's wedding makeup last and look good in photos?

Everything I use on the Bride is meant to be used for long wear along with primers, airbrush, setting powders, and setting sprays etc... But also this is why the Bridal Beauty Package, and Pampered Bride packages are so popular because it includes pre-ceremony touchups or both before and for Pampered Bride also after the ceremony. Brides are always happy when they know I am watch out for them so they don't have to. I am told when it's time to go they wish I could stay but it's a chance to be a prince and be catered to on your special day. A few brides told me they imagine this is what is would be like to be a movie star!

Pre-ceremony Photo Session Assistance is the same service we provide on commercial shoots to ensure flawless photos. We’ll stay behind the photographer, watching for and fixing stray hairs, smeared lipstick and shiny noses), Pre-Ceremony Touchups.

9. How long will makeup take on the day and how long will you be staying for on the day?

We give ourselves for makeup on the Bride an hour, an hour for hair and 45 mins per additional service for the bridal party. We add on 30min to set up when we get there and a half hour for touch ups at the end. If I can add any padding for bathroom breaks or eating I try account for that as well.

10. What is your cancellation and/or refund policy?

If the Artist cancels at any time or is unable to perform his or her duties for any reason, the initial payment paid will be fully refunded by check within two (2) weeks of the cancellation. Client agrees that the refund of 100% of the initial payment is the only liability to Angela Womack and any and all of its owners, employees, and agents.
