10 Questions with Kate Crabtree

1. Introduction: What's your story?

Hey there! My name is Kate Crabtree, and I'm the owner of Kate Crabtree Photography. I've been photographing Maine weddings and elopements since 2012, and specialize in Bar Harbor weddings and Acadia elopements. In that time, I've photographed more than 200 weddings and more than 40 elopements. I love working with my couples to create wedding photos that they'll be obsessed with, and, most importantly, will freeze their wedding in time. I want them to look at their photos and remember everything they were feeling. I originally planned to become a professor of English, but opted to not go for my PhD when I realized that I wasn't fond of teaching. While trying to figure out what to do next, I started playing more with my camera, and the rest is history.

2. How long have you been shooting weddings? How many weddings have you photographed?

I have been photographing weddings since 2012 and have photographed more than 200 weddings and more than 40 elopments.

3. How would you describe your photography style?

I am a creative documentary wedding photographer, or a wedding photojournalist. I capture my couples weddings 100% candidly, with no interference from me, save for portraits. I want my couples to look back on their wedding photos and remember how they were feeling in those moments, rather than thinking "ah yes, I remember when Kate asked me to look out the window while I was getting dressed." I use my knowledge in light, composition, and moment to capture excellent documentary wedding photos. I do lightly pose and direct couples during couples portrait and group portraits.

4. How well in advance should couples book their wedding photographer?

This is hard to answer, because I've booked couples 1 1/2 years out, and I've also booked weddings a week prior! In order to nab your ideal photographer, it's best to reach out as soon as you begin planning, but a year out is a safe bet. I book throughout the year, there's no real peak time where I book the most. Weekends are the first to book, and I've found July, August, and September are the most popular months.

5. What are the different packages that you offer and which one is your most popular package?

I offer several collections to best serve my wedding and elopement couples. Base collections include me and limited coverage, while larger collections include additional hours and second photographers.

6. Are you the wedding photographer who will be shooting on the wedding day? Who else is there in your team?

Yes, I am the wedding photographer who will be shooting on the wedding day! I'm often joined by my current second photographer, Kelsey, who expertly captures what I'm not focusing on during the wedding day.

7. Do you charge a travel fee? For what distance? What does that cover?

I charge a travel fee for weddings more than two hours away from Bangor.

8. Are albums or prints included in your packages?

In some of my collections, yes.

9. How long after the wedding will the couple receive the images? How will they be delivered?

Couples should expect to receive their weddings in eight to ten weeks, potentially faster depending on the time of year. They will be delivered via gallery download.

10. What is your cancellation and/or refund policy?

Great question! As is standard in the industry, couples may cancel their wedding photography coverage if needed, but all funds paid in are liquidated damages.
