Before Nancy Liu Chin created NLC Designs in 2001, Nancy was actually a weekend wedding warrior (one of those insanely passionate souls who loved planning weddings for friends and friends of friends while holding a corporate job in retail merchandising). Though she secretly collected Martha Stewart Wedding issues, clipped out floral images from books and magazines, it wasn’t really until after her own wedding to renowned San Francisco wedding photographer, Kevin Chin, that Nancy seriously decided to give the wedding business her full attention. Once she knew she wanted to do something with her hands, she worked a summer for respected calligrapher Michelle Papineau and later began apprenticing with floral guru Pico Soriano.
It was during these impressionable years that Nancy learned all about the art of making hand tied bouquets, boutonnieres and other detail floral pieces. Encouraged by her mentor, Pico Soriano, Nancy decided to learn more about floral design and enrolled in the esteemed City College of SF Horticulture program.
