10 Questions with Paul Mcfall

1. Introduction: What's your story?

Hi my name is Paul Mcfall IV and my wife Kelli and I are the owners of Capital Films DC! My photography and videography journey began at a very young age around 13 years old when my father Paul McFall III who was also a photographer at the time handed me my first camera. After he would arrived home from an event, I would often assist with editing and retouching photos which introduced me to the Adobe suite and the creative mindset that comes along with it. As time passed and cameras became video capable, I began to immerse myself in the world of cinematography. I even started a Youtube channel where I would teach different shooting and editing techniques. After a while, I built up a small community which pushed me to take my skills even further. Once I met my amazing wife, I discovered the beauty of weddings as we planned our own. Soon after, our first company Capital Films DC was born and it's been an awesome journey ever since!

2. How long have you been filming weddings? How many weddings have you filmed?

We started filming weddings in 2016 and since then we have shot around 75 weddings.

3. How would you describe your videography style?

I'm a story teller at heart so I seek them out in every shot that I take. When observing a creative opportunity, my goal is to combine multiple angles, focal lengths and the environment around me to bring the viewer into the scene as much as possible. I also try to collect audio separately with wireless mics as often as possible to keep everything clean and clear.

4. How well in advance should couples book their wedding videographer?

I would say that it really depends on time of year. In the early months of January through March which tend to be a little slower, you might get away with booking a few months ahead of time. However, beyond that time frame couples have often already booked a year in advance.

5. What are the different packages that you offer and which one is your most popular package?

We offer many different set packages and even develop custom packages based on the needs of our clients. Our pricing starts at $2,500 with our micro wedding packages. However, our most popular packages are the Lights Camera Action and Package 1 which is a combined photo and video package. The Lights Camera Action package includes two cinematographers, three cameras for ceremony, full event coverage, professional audio set-up, 8 – 12 minute cinematic highlight video, full ceremony and reception speeches, 1 – 2 minute sneak preview and cloud backup of film for 2 years. Package 1 includes everything from the lights camera action with the addition of 2 photographers and 300 plus edited photos.

6. Are you the wedding videographer who will be filming on the wedding day? How many camera people and cameras will be operating on the day?

Yes, currently I will be serving as the team lead for all weddings. Typically we have around four filmmakers working each event at any given time.

7. Do you charge a travel fee? For what distance? What does that cover?

Currently, we charge a travel fee of $300 for events that are 50 miles or more outside of the District of Columbia. If hotel stay or airfare happens to be necessary, then the client is responsible for those fees as well.

8. How do you back-up your footage to ensure no footage is lost and for how long do you keep the footage after the wedding?

Our footage is always backed up on two separate hard drives and then to the cloud using a tool called Sync iO which offers unlimited storage. Sync iO is offered by the Cyber Security Company we are partnered with, Sploit iO.

9. How long after the wedding will the couple receive the video? And how will the video be delivered?

Currently, we require between 30 to 60 days to finalize all of our wedding films. Once completed, our couples will receive a link to their cloud folders via email where they can find all of their deliverables.

10. What is your cancellation and/or refund policy?

After booking is completed, deposits are non-refundable. However, if the date of your wedding changes, we would be more than happy to move your deposit towards that date and reschedule with no additional fees.
