10 Questions with Titus and Jocelyn Carlson

1. Introduction: What's your story?

Hi! We are Titus and Jocelyn Carlson. We are a husband and wife photo and video team who capture beautiful love stories around the world! We started in the Inland Empire region and have expanded into the destination wedding and elopement market. The Covid-19 pandemic was a huge reason for that! I, Jocelyn, started this business as a solo wedding videographer in 2018. I loved the experience from our own wedding and wanted to create my own experience for other brides to enjoy through my wedding films. We had a very large wedding and our wedding video really made an impact on me. I had no idea how valuable our wedding video would be to me. Although it was beautiful, it was a very chaotic and crowded day. There were many things we forgot about and people and details we didn't get to see. Our wedding video gave me back those moments I thought I had missed out on and had lost forever. Being able to go back to the best day of our lives and relive it all over again was absolutely magical to me and I knew I wanted every other bride to feel the same way I did when I got our video back. And that's how it started! I picked up a camera for the first time, bought an online course, and decided I wanted to give this a shot. I wanted to learn how to make beautiful wedding films and use what I learned from my wedding day to create an experience where I can help and guide the couples that work with me. 2018 was my start up year and by 2019 I had about 20 weddings booked! My husband has always helped me behind the scenes and we were very excited for the weddings we had lined up for 2020. We had weddings booked in Germany, Italy, and the United Kingdom. It was going to be a big year for us. Fast forward to March of 2020 and our dreams, along with so many of our couples, were crushed. However, we did not let that stop us. We had 30 weddings reschedule to 2021. This freed up a lot of our time but made room for people to reach out last minute and book us for their very intimate destination elopements. We shot many elopements during 2020 that consisted of the couple, the photographer, and us as videographers. By the end of 2020, we had gained so much experience we decided create a new business model that better served our couples. We pulled Titus out from behind the scenes, added photography to our services, and became a husband and wife photo AND video team! With how much we began traveling, we thought we could best serve our couples by giving them an option to fly out and pay for one team instead of having to pay for several. This has been a big deal for us. We have so much fun traveling and working together and I believe our couples enjoy it too. Not only does it make sense, logistically and financially for our couples, but there is a level of comfortability that grows between our us and our couples because we are also married and work together well. I think this is a huge benefit. Being in front of a camera is HARD. The wedding day is typically the first time any of our couples have taken professional photos. Being a husband and wife team not only helps us create friendships with our couples, but it helps their level of comfortability in front of the camera and is ultimately reflected in their wedding photos and video. This is so important! You want to look back and remember how fun this day was! You don't want to look back and remember how scary being in front of the camera was. So here we are! A husband and wife photo and video team who loves connecting and capturing beautiful love stories all around the world!

2. How long have you been filming weddings? How many weddings have you filmed?

We've been filming weddings since 2018. We've filmed just over 100 weddings!

3. How would you describe your videography style?

Our style is natural and authentic. We want to capture moments the way they were. We aren't here to pose or create moments into something they are not. When you go back to watch your wedding video and look at your wedding photos, we want you to remember it by the way you felt and how you experienced it on that day.

4. How well in advance should couples book their wedding videographer?

At least 12 to 8 months out! It's never too soon! Right now the demand is so high most photographers and videographers are already booked out a year in advance.

5. What are the different packages that you offer and which one is your most popular package?

We offer photo and video packages for both elopements and traditional weddings. You can book photo or video individually based on what kind of day you plan on having (elopement or traditional wedding) or you can book them together in a combo package. Our most popular package is our wedding day photo and video combo package.

6. Are you the wedding videographer who will be filming on the wedding day? How many camera people and cameras will be operating on the day?

Yes we are! If you book the combo package, one of us will be shooting photo and the other will be shooting video. If you book videography individually we will both be filming your wedding day. We have about 4-5 cameras on a typical wedding day. You always have the option to add on additional shooters to help film or photograph.

7. Do you charge a travel fee? For what distance? What does that cover?

We have separate packages for weddings that require travel. Anything outside of the Southern California region is considered a "destination" for us and we will send over those specific packages. The difference between those packages and our local packages is an estimated cost of travel. We like to include the cost of travel into the overall package. This is so much easier for our couples. They only have to be concerned with one package price and rest assured that everything else is taken care of. They don't have to worry about a bunch of invoices being sent their way from additional travel costs. There are so many moving parts when planning a wedding day. We understand we are just one of the many vendors our couples hire. We like to make the process as easy as possible for them. One and done!

8. How do you back-up your footage to ensure no footage is lost and for how long do you keep the footage after the wedding?

Such an important question every couple should ask their photo and video team! All of our cameras have two slots for recording. This means that the footage and photos we take a being save TWICE on two separate memory cards at all times. So we walk away from your wedding day with two copies of everything! The night of the wedding we go home and we transfer all that data. We transfer one copy to a large external hard drive, another copy to our cloud back up called Backblaze, and another copy to our online google drive. Add the two memory cards we walked away with from the wedding, and we have a total of FIVE back ups of your wedding footage and photos. We will always keep 1 copy of all your raw photos and footage from your wedding day after we've delivered everything.

9. How long after the wedding will the couple receive the video? And how will the video be delivered?

Timing based off demand varies. We typically deliver your wedding video 8-10 weeks after your wedding day. Your video will be delivered via online platform known as WedFlow. This is where you'll be able to watch and download your video and any additional edits your ordered. We deliver our photos via online gallery known as Pic-Time.

10. What is your cancellation and/or refund policy?

Cancellation, Rescheduling of Services, or No-Show Client:

If Client desires to cancel Services, reschedule services, or if it becomes impossible for Vendor to render Services due to the fault of the Client or parties related to Client, such as failure of the wedding to occur or failure of one or more essential parties to the wedding to show up in a timely manner, Client shall provide notice to Vendor as soon as possible via the Notice provisions detailed in this Agreement. Vendor has no obligation to attempt to re-book further Services to fill the void created by Client’s cancellation, rescheduling, no-show or if it becomes impossible for Vendor to provide the Services due to the fault of Client (or parties related to Client), and Vendor will not be obligated to refund any monies Client has previously paid towards the Total Cost. Client is not relieved of any payment obligations for canceled Services, rescheduled Services, failing to show up for the wedding, or should it become impossible for Vendor to provide the services due to the fault of Client (or parties related to Client) unless the Parties otherwise agree in writing. For instance, if Vendor is able to secure another, unrelated client for (DATE), then Vendor may choose, at its sole discretion, to excuse all (or a portion of) Client's outstanding balance of the Total Cost. If the Client should choose to reschedule services, a reschedule fee of an additional $500 will be required and paid in full by the Client, before the Vendor agrees to move forward with a change in date. Vendor also reserves the right to provide a photography and/or videography team as a replacement to capture the contracted event. Vendor agrees to continue all forms of communication, edit the final project, and see to the completion of this contract and the responsibilities included.
