10 Questions with Edgar Loya

1. Introduction: What's your story?

Hello! I am Edgar from Edgar Anthony Films. I am your guy behind the camera and all the work you see in my films.

A few years back, after friends and family saw me posting short clips and videos of my family vacation trips on Instagram, shortly thereafter I was asked to film a wedding. I said yes and the rest was history! While the work has been rewarding in itself, this didn't come easy, however. I knew nothing about starting a business or didn't come from a family with a business background. I just knew I had a passion for creating videos and was willing to learn it.

After watching hundreds of YouTube videos and learning how to use video editing software, I began to expand my knowledge for filming by listening to podcasts, watched more YouTube tutorials, got tips and advice from professionals I met along the way and invested in myself with educational courses. I can say I have come a long way but I'm still picking up new skills each day to better serve my couples.

2. How long have you been filming weddings? How many weddings have you filmed?

I've been filming weddings since 2019 and have filmed dozens of weddings thereafter. Of course, the 2020 pandemic hit the wedding industry hard and my weddings were limited due to postponements and reschedules, but I used this time to learn other aspects of the business side of things rather than the creative side of it. I found it helped me be more well-balanced, just what I needed to grow as a business professional and a creator.

3. How would you describe your videography style?

It really depends on the personality of the couple and the overall feeling of the wedding day. Some of my films are dramatic, some are fun to watch, and others are very intimate. That is why I pay close attention to the mood of the day and get to know my couples as much as possible to help me get a feeling for what they would love to see in their wedding film. I will take the time to get to know their backgrounds, pay attention to the candid moments on the wedding day, listen closely to their vows and try to draw out from that what their love truly means to them and reflect it on their film. I've been told by my couples that I portrayed their love story perfectly on their wedding film.

4. How well in advance should couples book their wedding videographer?

Anytime! If I'm available, let's do it! I literally had a bride book me 3 days before her elopement and it turned out super flawless. Of course, the sooner you book, the better. A retainer will lock your wedding day in advance and officially place you on my wedding calendar. I find April, May and October to be popular months for weddings, so you don't want to lose out on your preferred wedding videographer for not booking soon enough. I only take a limited amount of weddings per year to better serve my couples.

5. What are the different packages that you offer and which one is your most popular package?

I have two collections: All-Day Collection and the Half-Day Collection. Couples can customize their package by purchasing additional add-ons such as aerial videography (drone) and a second shooter. The Half-Day Collection will give you 5 hours of filming on your wedding day and the All-Day Collection will give you 8 hours, plus a longer film and Ceremony Edit included. Therefore, my popular package is the All-Day Collection.

6. Are you the wedding videographer who will be filming on the wedding day? How many camera people and cameras will be operating on the day?

Yes I am! You can count on me that I will be the one behind the camera on your wedding day, directing you on what to do, being creative and informing you of the vision I see for your wedding film. All the work and style of my films are edited by me so you can be sure that I put every effort into every film to create a lovely masterpiece. With a help of a second cameraman, I will have two cameras operating the day off to not miss any moments and four cameras during the ceremony.

7. Do you charge a travel fee? For what distance? What does that cover?

Local weddings around the Fresno area don't require a travel free. Weddings that require more than 100 miles round trip are charged a fee for traveling.

8. How do you back-up your footage to ensure no footage is lost and for how long do you keep the footage after the wedding?

All footage is immediately backed up into an external hard drive and then uploaded into an online cloud storage. Weddings can't be repeated so it is extremely important and crucial to have a safe and good backup system. All footage is saved indefinitely. I find myself to use old footage for marketing purposes, for social media content and I also save them in case couples want to purchase raw footage in the future.

9. How long after the wedding will the couple receive the video? And how will the video be delivered?

Couples may be surprised that the turnaround time to deliver wedding films is three to four months. Videography takes longer than photography as we have to work on the editing, mix in the audio and sound effects, the music, color grade it and build a story. It's a lengthy process, but if done right, will result in an incredible and beautiful film. So it takes time to deliver a good film. All video is delivered with a video delivery platform and a downloadable link.

10. What is your cancellation and/or refund policy?

The retainer is a non-refundable payment that secures your wedding and officially locks you in my calendar. Any monies paid thereafter are applied to your remaining balance. In the event you should cancel your wedding, there are terms in the contract in which a refund may apply. However, many couples opt to reschedule to avoid cancelling such a memorable event. I have worked with couples who have rescheduled their wedding day with much success.
