10 Questions with Valerie Gernhauser

1. Introduction: What's your story?

Our luxury destination wedding planners are focused on one objective. To us, the celebration of life's best moments is not some trivial thing. We take the responsibility of creating experiences your greatest milestones very seriously. The art of crafting an experiential celebration involves appealing to all five senses: tactile, flavor, aroma, audio, and visual. In the time and place where all five of these senses converge lies the ultimate achievement of the interwoven story of our clients, narrating the journey where their lives intersect with their loved ones in the same room, in the same moment, in one singular period of time.

2. What's your experience as a wedding planner? How many weddings have you planned?

Over the decade+ since we started, we have planned hundreds of weddings! I consider myself fortunate and privileged to have been entrusted in the position of using my art and creative perspective to help families celebrate the lives they are living, articulate the story they are expressing, and encapsulate a moment of time that becomes their living legacy moving forward. I get a front row seat to all of the ins and outs of the family dynamics, the trials and tribulations, the joy, the overwhelming sense of love, all of which breathe life into the human condition.

Because of the honorable position my clients have entrusted to me, I live and breathe and think and sleep and eat every day with their story in mind. I toil over what my contribution will be toward furthering their living legacy and the narrative that my clients will continue to write after the big day has passed. I commit myself to my art, because I realize that the privilege bestowed upon me to tell a story for one single day is a tremendous responsibility for the families I will work with for the better part of a year, who will continue to write their story without me for the rest of their lives. I have but one day to share my art, and I work tirelessly, continuously until that day to make it my best representation of their narrative.

3. What sorts of services do you offer (month-of coordination, full-service planning, or à la carte planning)?

Full service destination wedding planning is our speciality. Because our emotional and intellectual investment in every one of our experiential celebrations is so high, we reserve the time and space in our hearts and minds for only a few select families with which we are privileged to work over the course of the year. We readily and intentionally give so much of ourselves to you, so that you can receive the very best of us. We want you to enjoy the luxury of time, the fortune of honor and trust in us, faith and confidence that you are placing your narrative with the very best artists in storytelling. The course of your story before and after your celebration are yours; the celebration itself is our chapter to write on your behalf.

If I can give you the most priceless and precious gift by making this process as efficient and enjoyable as it should be, that is the greatest value of my artistic endeavor. The party starts with us; the story continues with you.

4. How do payments work (a percentage of the wedding budget, a flat fee etc.)? What are the different packages that you offer and which one is your most popular package?

We charge a flat fee plus a percentage for full service planning.

5. Who else is in your team and how many people on your staff will be at the wedding?

We have a team of four producers on staff and depending on the size, scope, and logistics involved, we employ as large a team as is necessary to get the job done on the event day!

6. What happens if you're sick or otherwise unable to be there on the day of the wedding?

My team is a well oiled machine that operates seamlessly on event day no matter who is at the helm. We are always prepared for contingencies.

7. How many meetings will you have with the couple and how will they be involved?

Unlimited! We believe in unlimited communication and meetings - we want to set you up for success for your best day ever. Whatever it takes to get the job done.

8. Will you handle the invitations, from wording and ordering to the addressing and mailing? What about guest list coordination and RSVPs?

We will happily design and draft the wording for all the paper products and stationery needs of our clients. As a full service planner, we take care of all the details, including RSVP receipt and management.

9. Do you handle rentals? Will you coordinate delivery, arrival and set up times with the photographer, the florist, the musicians and the caterer/banquet manager?

Yes, we handle everything, soup to nuts! Our production is a tried-and true process and our suppliers and vendor partners are the best in the business. We manage our teams effectively so that our clients receive the best possible result imaginable on their best day ever.

10. Can you create a timeline that tells everyone involved in the planning process (other pros, members of the wedding party, to-be-weds and families) what to do and when to do it? How will you make sure everyone sticks to the schedule?

Yes, our production schedules are second to none! We live and die by the five minute rule, and communication clearly and effectively with all memebers of the team is critical.
