10 Questions with Elyse Simons Feinstein

1. Introduction: What's your story?

I'd like to tell you a little bit about myself and my approach to bridal makeup. I believe in working with brides to develop an individual wedding day style. My approach is to listen to you and identify the look that you would like to achieve and then together, we can develop a unique and personalized makeup application. We will work to create the perfect style to make you look and feel beautiful. I believe it's all about projecting a classic and timeless style to enhance your natural beauty. I also believe that you have your own unique style of beauty, and that the makeup you wear for your wedding day needs to reflect who you are.

2. What's your experience as a bridal hair & makeup artist? How many brides are in there in your portfolio?

Your wedding day is one of the most important days of your life. A day when you’ll be the center of attention, and the memories created will be captured for life. You will want to feel and look your absolute best. I want you to be able to look back at your wedding day photos 20 years from now and still see yourself, as you did then, looking happy and beautiful.

I'm here to help you navigate tough decisions on all the options you have when it comes to having the best makeup for your wedding day.

My approach is to listen to you and identify the exact look that you would like to achieve during your Bridal Preview. This is a crucial step in providing a customized plan for each bride and lets us get it right before your big day.

I will bring my on-location mobile studio to you. You’ll leave my makeup chair looking gorgeous and stunning both in person and in your photographs. My skills include applying enough makeup to look good for the cameras yet still have your complexion look as natural as when you were born.

There are 28 brides in my portfolio.

3. What are the different packages that you offer and which one is your most popular package?

My most popular package is The Bridal Package. It includes your Bridal Preview (a 2 hour appointment prior to your wedding day to discuss your preferences), your Wedding Day Makeup (I arrive at the location where you and your bridal party are getting ready equipped with everything needed to begin your transformations), Makeup Applications for 2 Bridesmaids, Makeup Application for the Mother of the Bride.

We can also add additional Bridesmaids, Mother of the Groom, and the Groom.

4. Do you have a team of assistants or will you be the only artist that day? What will happen if you're sick or have an emergency on the wedding day?

Generally, Elyse is the only artist needed on the wedding day. If you have a bridal party larger than 8 people, I bring along a qualified makeup artist.

If Elyse is sick or has an emergency on your wedding day, another makeup artist will be chosen to be with you at your wedding.

5. Do you charge a travel fee? For what distance? What does that cover?

A travel fee is charged if the roundtrip miles are greater than 60 from the 79912 zip code. The rate of $25 per 1/2 hour of travel time will be calculated and possible overnight accommodations will be charged if necessary.

6. Can the bride book a wedding makeup trial appointment and will you also do a trial before the wedding?

Yes, Elyse likes to not call this a makeup trial, but a Preview of how you will look on your wedding day. The preview is done prior to your wedding day.

7. What beauty products do you use and would you be open to the bride using her own make-up?

The most common question Elyse gets asked is: What makeup brands do you use? Do you stick to one brand?

My simple answer is, No, I use many different makeup brands. My core makeup kit is made up of high-quality professional brands. Professional brands that are made to withstand the long hours for a bride, for a photo shoot or movie set, for the hot, bright lights on a theatre stage.

8. How can you make the bride's wedding makeup last and look good in photos?

Elyse specializes in camera ready makeup - designed for all photography lighting.

When it comes to makeup for your wedding day, there are a few critical elements you must keep in mind to get those worthy images that you'll cherish forever.

If you're not used to wearing a lot of makeup on a daily basis, your wedding day is when you should be wearing a little more than usual. But have no fear, that DOESN'T mean you'll have a cake face.

Elyse will apply a little more foundation so your skin looks flawless, along with more blush so your face won’t appear blown out from the flash photography. To make sure your eyes look amazing in your photographs, if needed, Elyse will apply a deeper eyeshadow along with false eyelashes that will make your eyes seem to be wide open. Your makeup should have more coverage without a ton of opacity.

9. How long will makeup take on the day and how long will you be staying for on the day?

The makeup applied by Elyse will last 12-16 hours with the exception of the lip color that is custom blended for each individual. For that reason, Elyse will be providing each bridal party member a touch up color for later in the day and/or evening.

Elyse generally stays until the Bride and her Bridal Party makeup applications are completed. However, Elyse can be contracted to stay for Touch Up Services or a Second Look for your reception. The time for this begins immediately following the initial makeup application.

10. What is your cancellation and/or refund policy?

A 50% retainer of the total package is required when the Bridal Agreement is signed. Should this agreement be cancelled for any reason by the client, the retainer is non-refundable and Elyse Simons Beauty reserves the right to re-book the date.
