10 Questions with Haley Snodderly

1. Introduction: What's your story?

Hello I'm Haley. My journey began when I became obsessed with cutting my barbie's hair at age 7, my mom wasn't thrilled. My love for hair and makeup continued when I would do hair and makeup for special events for friends and family. When I realized I could to do this as a profession I went straight to cosmetology school after High School and landed my first job in the beauty business in 2009. I love being able to help make someone feel confident and the transformations are very rewarding!

2. What's your experience as a bridal hair & makeup artist? How many brides are in there in your portfolio?

I have had approximately 550 brides / bridal parties in my portfolio over the 12 years in the bridal industry. I also do hair and makeup for Holiday parties, prom, costume makeup, and concerts. I've had the opportunity to provide hair and makeup for several photo shoots with several area photographers from avant garde style to very traditional.

3. What are the different packages that you offer and which one is your most popular package?

I have a travel package for a group of 4 or more for me to go to the wedding venues to get everyone ready. Pricing starts at $65 for makeup and $55 for hair for each girl. Travel fees is based on the distance from the salon where I work and the venue at $1 per mile. I'm also available to book small bridal parties at the salon where I work in the midtown Tulsa area called Salon DiVago if the bride doesn't have an on site location to do hair and makeup. The most popular is traveling to the venue, it makes it much easier on the bridal parties to be able to get ready together and have a stress free day, and let's face it, who doesn't want that!

4. Do you have a team of assistants or will you be the only artist that day? What will happen if you're sick or have an emergency on the wedding day?

I can typically handle the smaller bridal parties myself allowing for plenty of time and extra wiggle room for any unforeseen situations that might come up. I have a stylist that I've worked with for nearly 10 years who is available for traveling with me for larger bridal parties and she could fill in for me incase of an emergency with enough notice to be able to help get everyone ready.

5. Do you charge a travel fee? For what distance? What does that cover?

Yes, it depends on the location. I charge by distance 1$ per mile round trip from the salon to the venue. I have an extensive collection of makeup that really doesn't lend itself to packing all of that to fly somewhere. I usually don't travel more than hour to a venue. The travel fee is simply a fee for gas and maintenance for my vehicle.

6. Can the bride book a wedding makeup trial appointment and will you also do a trial before the wedding?

Of course! I love to do trials so I can meet expectations because we don't want any surprises on such an important day. I recommend doing trials to talk about the details of the day and times to be ready by. Most importantly to see how the bride wants to style her hair and makeup for their special day.

7. What beauty products do you use and would you be open to the bride using her own make-up?

I use MAC and Dinair makeup. I have a vast array of products that I have acquired to meet everyone's needs. However, if there is a skin sensitivity, after the consultation we can decide what is best for the client. I am not in the habit of using a client's own makeup unless otherwise discussed ahead of time.

8. How can you make the bride's wedding makeup last and look good in photos?

Airbrush makeup is guaranteed to last up to 18 hours. It gives the appearance of a smooth complexion, matte finish, and looks flawless in photos. It is sweat resistant and safe for those happy tears. It's simply the most popular and effective application of the majority of my brides I've done over the years.

9. How long will makeup take on the day and how long will you be staying for on the day?

It usually takes about an hour and a half per person depending on the goal for makeup and the chosen style of hair, length, and thickness. It's most important for my brides to understand there needs to be ample time allowed to accomplish our goals and getting everyone pretty ON TIME to alleviate all the stressers to make their special day come off without a hitch! I have several products to get set up and I always try to plan on arriving in plenty of time to prepare and start on time.

10. What is your cancellation and/or refund policy?

A non refundable deposit, which is fairly standard in this business, is made at the time of booking the appointment with few exceptions. Depending upon how busy the season is I would need to know in advance. I completely understand life is full of curveballs and am willing to take into consideration if something changes last minute.
