10 Questions with Kim Baker Gomez

1. Introduction: What's your story?

Hi! My name is Kim Baker Gomez and I'm the founder of Kim Baker Beauty. I found a love for makeup in high school as a competitive dancer. Many people recommended I become a makeup artist and after college, I finally started to believe in making that dream a reality.

I attended esthetician school in 2013, where I met my first mentor and started assisting weddings in the summer of 2013. I completely fell in love with bridal suites and helping people to see how beautiful they are.

2. What's your experience as a bridal hair & makeup artist? How many brides are in there in your portfolio?

I have been providing makeup services since 2013 assisting other artists and building my own bridal beauty business while also teaching preschool full time. I have served upward of 35 brides, over 200 bridesmaids and moms, and a handful of branding and family photo clients.

3. What are the different packages that you offer and which one is your most popular package?

Bridal Beauty Package: makeup + hair $1200
Preview, timeline, day of application, lashes for both wedding and preview, day of brow touchup

Bridal party:
makeup $160
hair $160
both $300

Touchups $100/hour

Branding and photos:
Makeup - $188 (60 min)
Makeup + curls -$266 (90 min)
Touchups $100/hour

4. Do you have a team of assistants or will you be the only artist that day? What will happen if you're sick or have an emergency on the wedding day?

I work closely with a community of other artists. We support one another when help is needed due to time or the number of services.

In the last 7 years of being a bridal makeup artist, I have never missed serving my brides on their wedding days. However, if this does happen in the future, I promise to help you find a replacement.

5. Do you charge a travel fee? For what distance? What does that cover?

When driving, I charge $0.58/mile for each artist. I also am available for flying in which case flight and hotel are covered by the client as well.

6. Can the bride book a wedding makeup trial appointment and will you also do a trial before the wedding?

The beauty preview is included in the bridal package. Most of my clients book me for their wedding prior to a trial. However, if you would prefer to experience my service prior to booking, we can schedule a interview so you can experience my service and get to know me ahead of booking.

Additionally, I meet all clients on zoom or in person prior to sending a contract and invoice. We both need to agree that we are a good fit for you wedding day beauty services.

As the first vendor you are with on your wedding morning, it is incredibly important to me that you choose ME and not just my skill.

7. What beauty products do you use and would you be open to the bride using her own make-up?

I have a range of high-quality professional products in my kit and am open to discussing product usage with each client. Part of my bridal services is a skincare consultation which includes getting information about a bride's allergies and sensitivities.

Very often, a bride will use their own lip product so they can touch up if they'd like. I also will send you the link to the lip product we use at the preview for you to purchase if you so wish.

8. How can you make the bride's wedding makeup last and look good in photos?

SKINCARE SKINCARE SKINCARE. Less is more when it comes to makeup and by properly prepping the skin leading up to the big day and on wedding day, I am able to apply as little product as possible.

Skin is meant to move and naturally has fin lines, creasing will happen. However, by using less product and even removing product in fine lines, I am able to reduce creasing.

For longevity, I use high-quality professional products that are made to last.

When it comes to photos, I often research the photographer to make educated recommendations about the appearance of makeup in photos. However, I also believe that a person looks best in photos when they feel their most confident and therefore do not put as much emphasis on makeup for photos- my photographer friends agree!

At the end of the day, I want to make you happy. I listen to your wishes and together we create a look that you will be overjoyed about.

You can find client reviews on Google by searching Kim Baker Beauty to see what people have to say about their experience with me.

9. How long will makeup take on the day and how long will you be staying for on the day?

I schedule an hour service for each client on wedding day with 30 minutes to set up and 30 minutes for touchups and lips prior to my departure. I can stay longer for an additional fee.

10. What is your cancellation and/or refund policy?

Full refunds are only made when I have to cancel for any reason. If you have to cancel or are exposed to Covid, deposits are nonrefundable but no additional payments are due. Reschedules are available for no charge.
