10 Questions with Ashley Barnes

1. Introduction: What's your story?

Hi! we are Ashley Renee and Tommie Michelle, two best friends with a passion for beauty and love for making people for good about themselves. We started the business of making people feel beautiful about 12 years ago as a BF hair and makeup team duo. We have since trained and grown our team to accommodate the ever blushing bride that comes our way. We decided to start a glam squad for brides after Ashley got married in 2009. We had such a calm, fun, relaxing day and wanted to bring that same energy to other brides getting married. We work hard to offer more than just beauty services, but a relationship and support to every bride that comes our way.

2. What's your experience as a bridal hair & makeup artist? How many brides are in there in your portfolio?

We currently have a team of 12 amazing artists. When you book with Dollhouse you get an individual artist for each craft, meaning you get a team with a makeup artist, hair artist and assistant to ensure everything runs smoothly and on time. We average about 55 weddings a year and have maintained that average since 2011. Our team not only works weddings, but special events, set work and fashion shows. Dollhouse provides Too Faced cosmetics with beauty styling for all of their digital marketing as well as serving backstage at LA Fashion week the past 3 years.

We are very particular on the artists we hire. We have a strict, intense hiring process and then extensive training before sending any of our artists out on jobs. This ensures our team provides ultimate costumer service and top notch artistry.

3. What are the different packages that you offer and which one is your most popular package?

All of our pricing is a la carte. However, our bridal pricing does include your trial run through. We also offer discounts of airbrushing for larger bridal parties.

4. Do you have a team of assistants or will you be the only artist that day? What will happen if you're sick or have an emergency on the wedding day?

We have a large team of artists and junior artists that also work with the team on larger parties or parties with a time restraint. We are very communicative with our brides and if an emergency comes up we have back up team member, pictures and communication to ensure the bride will still receive a top notch service. In the past 12 years we have only had 3 instances where a stylist was unable to show up to an appointment because of an emergency but we had another team member show up in her place, execute her style perfectly and on on time.

5. Do you charge a travel fee? For what distance? What does that cover?

We do charge a travel fee of $1 per mile for jobs over 60 miles from our salon location in Riverside, Ca. This fee covers gas and California state law mileage fees.

6. Can the bride book a wedding makeup trial appointment and will you also do a trial before the wedding?

Yes! Our bridal trial fees are included in our bridal pricing. We recommend booking your trial 3-4 weeks prior to the event. However, we try our best to accommodate any trial date the bride wishes. A fee is due at the date of trial but is then deducted from the brides total amount due.

7. What beauty products do you use and would you be open to the bride using her own make-up?

We use all different brands and types of products that we need to produce the best style and look. We are always open to using whatever products our client desires.

8. How can you make the bride's wedding makeup last and look good in photos?

There are many advanced techniques and elite products our team uses to ensure long lasting makeup. This is why the trial run is so important so the artist can learn your skin type and will know how to prep your skin accordingly to ensure a long lasting look.

9. How long will makeup take on the day and how long will you be staying for on the day?

This is all dependent on how many people are receiving services. On average, bridal makeup takes 1 hour to 1.5 hours.

10. What is your cancellation and/or refund policy?

We do require a non-refundable retainer of 30% at the time of booking to retain the requested date. Any additional monies acquired BEFORE services are performed is subject to a refund if the event is cancelled. If ANY services are perform, that amount of money required for the performed services will not be refunded if the event is cancelled.
