10 Questions with Laura Rogers

1. Introduction: What's your story?

I began my adventure in floral design in high school, taking a horticulture class and learning all of the design elements and tricks of the trade. Over the years, I would help do flowers for friends weddings, my sorority special events, and my own wedding. I then became the horticulture teacher at my local high school and taught students about floral design, before ultimately taking a leap of faith and creating my own floral design business. I officially launched Southern Blooms Floral Design in 2020 and enjoyed every minute of it! I love working with couples to create their wedding dreams. I like working with different color palettes, creating unique designs, and making my Bride's smile. With over 17 years of total experience (since high school), I have seen a lot of different styles and popular designs go around. I thoroughly enjoy each and every wedding or event I'm able to work with.

2. What's your experience as a wedding florist business? How many weddings are in there in your portfolio?

My experience in the floral industry is honestly all over the place. I have been a student learning the basics, a college student that helped create floral designs for her sorority and friends' weddings, then a teacher that taught high schoolers about floral design, to owner and designer of my own business, and I also work in the floral wholesale industry. I have a vast knowledge of floral varieties and options for my couples, which helps keep couples on budget when making decisions.

In my overall portfolio, I have too many weddings to count. Over the two years of creating Southern Blooms Floral Design, I have been apart of and celebrated around 15 weddings with wonderful couples.

3. How far in advance do couples need to secure your services?

I suggest couples reach out anywhere from 6-9 months in advance to ensure availabilty. With that being said, I've had brides book with me almost a year in advance. I often tell couples, its never too early to start with any and all wedding plans.

4. How do you price your floral arrangements? What are the different packages that you offer and which one is your most popular package?

All weddings and events are completely custom orders and prices vary with each design. My average couple spends about $1500-3000 for their wedding florals. I try to keep the floral design as close to the budget as possilble.

5. How many meetings will you have with the couple, and how will they be involved?

Depends on the couple- I know couples are usually busy with other wedding details and might not want a meeting with me and will chat via emails/phone calls. I usually deal with my couples via email and phone calls. We work with a variety of pictures and design styles back and forth until we find somethng for the couples.

6. Who else is in your team and how many people on your staff will be at the wedding?

I'm the owner and designer for Southern Blooms Floral Design, occasionally I have my mom join me and help with design, delivery and setup. My mom has always been my "right hand lady" and loves designing flowers as well.

7. How would you describe your design style? (e.g. traditional, modern, rustic, organic)

I have more of a traditional and rustic design style, however I enjoy creating new and different designs all the time. I've had a lot of unique design ideas from brides and I truly like thinking of new ways to create unique ideas and test my ability as a designer.

8. Who will handle setup and delivery? What other services do you offer?

Usually delivery and setup are done by myself and sometimes my mom steps in to help. We're a small team but we get a lot done and quick! We love to help and will help in any way we possibly can.

9. What happens to the flowers after the wedding?

It's up to the couple! A lot of our designs are in containers that couples can take with them and have sent home with family and friends. If using rentals of mine, I will come back at the end of the evening to pickup items and help make sure those that are taking florals home, get those taken home. Couples can also choose to donate flowers afterwards and I will help get those flowers to nursing homes and local churches.

10. What is your cancellation and/or refund policy?

Couples can cancel up to a month prior to their wedding date, any cancelations up to that point will receive their money back other than their $150 non-refundable retainer fee.
