10 Questions with Francisco Perez

1. Introduction: What's your story?

I'm Francisco Perez, founder of Elegante Entertainment in Houston Texas. I started to DJ because of my LOVE to dance. There was an opportunity to help my church youth group with a gala and I got everything needed to DJ the dance, including, CDs. My Love for dancing is what has kept me actively on top of the new music out there that is danceable. I enjoy weddings because we celebrate the love of two people and their willingness to commit to each other.

2. What's your experience as a wedding DJ? How many weddings have you done?

I started doing weddings in 1999. I was first asked to DJ a family party and the response I got from my family helped me LOVE this profession. Knowing that people were excited and grateful for the service was very fulfilling. I tend to do anywhere from 30-45 weddings every year.

3. How far in advance do couples need to book your services?

Up to a year in most cases. However, there are times that I am available to work a weekend and if the conditions are right, I'll take a wedding with a one-week notice. This usually happens once a year. The average and recommended is approximately 6 months in advance. However, if you see a DJ you like, you should book him right away.

4. What's your rate? What does that include?

The Saturday rate starts at $1,000 for up to 5 Hours. This is our basic DJ service, with speakers for the reception, wireless microphone, DJ/MC, and lights for the dance floor.

5. Are you available to travel if needed?

Yes, I live in Houston Texas, but I've traveled to Fort Worth, Austin, Dallas and San Antonio Texas. Out of state, I've traveled to Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Arkansas.

6. How would you describe your style?

Modern Traditional.

I love traditional wedding concepts. And by traditional, I mean the whole process of a wedding reception. I am very open-minded so I do any type of wedding. If two human beings love each other and want to share a wedding together, then just give me a call and I'll provide the music and a lot of dancing!

7. What's your backup plan if there's an equipment malfunction? Do you bring backup equipment?

ALWAYS!

I have a cargo van, which is overkill for a wedding reception, some people can carry all their equipment in a car. I take a van because I usually take 2 sets of everything.

8. What's your sick day policy?

Sick Days, What are those? That's a great question, the only thing stopping me right now from attending a wedding is that I would come down with COVID. I take every precaution to avoid contact with anyone that may have been in contact with COVID. My policy is that I will find you a replacement DJ that will take great care of my client. Just as if I was the one doing the wedding reception. I am in a network of several DJs in Houston that help each other out.

9. How do you motivate a shy crowd to dance? What do you do to motivate the crowd if nobody is dancing?

I believe that good music, and inviting tone of voice, and a little bit of patience is the perfect way to motivate a shy crowd. Shy crowds can be tricky sometimes. You can't hit a shy crowd with a level 10 of energy if they are only at a level 2 of energy, that will not work. You have to play a few great hits, invite them to the dance floor, and encourage dancing. It's a wedding, most of the time there is one or two people that love the bride and groom enough to go out and break the ice. Now an active crowd, play any great dance song and they'll run out to the dance floor. The key for me is Music, playing the right first couple of songs. They have to be songs that make you move, even if you're sitting down.

10. What is your cancellation and/or refund policy?

Cancelations are handled as follows. If you cancel your event 31 or more days before your event, we will refund your down payment.
