10 Questions with Tonisha Young

1. Introduction: What's your story?

I am DJ T Beauty, a lover of love and music, turned award-winning professional DJ. Growing up watching Salt & Peppa, my attention focused on on DJ Spinderella because at that time, I had never seen a female DJ and she made it look so COOL! I wasn’t until 5 years ago that I became confident enough to even give it a try. With a huge investment from Youngman Lee of Moment Ent Group, who would go on to become my manager, I was armed with everything I needed to realize my dream. I used all of my resources including YouTube tutorials from DJ Carlo Atendido, Beat Refinery classes, endless practice, obtained my Audio Arts certification and an now pursuing my bachelors degree in Audio Production at Full Sail University. Over the last few years, I have been fortunate enough to provide Dj services for so many different types of events including festivals, fashion shows, pop up shops, baby showers and the list just goes on. But my favorite, by far, would have to be weddings. I absolutely love being apart of these beautiful occasions and helping to orchestrate the wedding of their dreams.

2. What's your experience as a wedding DJ? How many weddings have you done?

To date, I have done a total 11 weddings for beautiful couples throughout the country and abroad. Unfortunately, many of my clients have had to reschedule their wedding dates because of the COVID-19 Pandemic, however, I believe there will be many more weddings in the near future as the country becomes more safe.

3. How far in advance do couples need to book your services?

It is best for couples to book my services one year in advance, in order to secure their wedding date. However, I am very flexible and have been able to provide services for weddings booked with less 3 months notice. No matter your timeline, provided that your date is available, I am able to assist you with booking services for your wedding day.

4. What's your rate? What does that include?

The base price for weddings begin at $1000. The price includes 5 hours of service on the day of your (non-destination) wedding. It also includes my coordination with your wedding planner to assist in creating a personalized wedding timeline as well as assisting with the execution of this timeline to ensure that everything runs on schedule on the day of and hosting/emcee services. Lastly, it includes the provision, set up and break down of all the necessary equipment to provide both music, sound and basic lighting. Additional hours of service and additional lighting can be added to your package for an additional fee. I also have a digital photo booth and props available that can also be added to your package.

5. Are you available to travel if needed?

Destination weddings are my absolute favorite because I really love to travel. So if you're having a destination wedding, no worries! I will make sure that we have everything we will need for your big day, no matter the destination!

6. How would you describe your style?

I would decide my style is fun and crowd friendly! I really know how to read a room and that's an important trait to have as a DJ. My style, from wedding to wedding, is much like my clients. My clients are all very unique, amazing people that are deeply in love and have beautiful families supporting them. So I just try to compliment and enhance that feeling of love and happiness in the air.

7. What's your backup plan if there's an equipment malfunction? Do you bring backup equipment?

I have literally never had an equipment malfunction, but I do carry backup equipment because you can never be too careful.

8. What's your sick day policy?

If there is, unfortunately, no possible way for me to fulfill my obligations to a client on the day of their event, I am prepared to notify my client and replace myself with a DJ that can fulfill my obligation at the same level of professionalism and excellence.

9. How do you motivate a shy crowd to dance? What do you do to motivate the crowd if nobody is dancing?

I dance! I'm ALWAYS dancing, especially if it's an upbeat song. And usually, a good line dance song can always pull people out onto the dance floor. But if I actually start to dance myself, because I just have SO much fun when I dance, I can almost guarantee that the dancing will begin. People just automatically dance with me and I really I love that!

10. What is your cancellation and/or refund policy?

Clients may cancel up until 7 business days of the scheduled event in writing without incurring a late cancellation fee. Upon cancellation, clients forfeit monies paid, as the deposit for holding the date of service is non-refundable.
