10 Questions with Josh Olson

1. Introduction: What's your story?

Hello, I’m Josh with Olson Entertainment, Colorados best source of event DJ services. We do it all--parties, weddings, school functions and corporate events. With over 11 years of professional experience we are able to provide service that is unmatched by others. I've learned so much having experienced so many vastly different weddings and events that I'm comfortable with all environments and even able to adapt to changes and challenges when needed.

2. What's your experience as a wedding DJ? How many weddings have you done?

Weddings require an exceptional level of detail. We have learned through the 100+ weddings we have done that no two are the same. Timing and flow are paramount to a successful day that everyone will remember.

Starting before the ceremony to the last dance of the evening, we strive to keep your guests entertained and engaged in the moments that you will never forget. Toasts, dances, games and other events are no problem and we work to time all events properly so the reception will be the envy of all your guests.

We want you to be able relax and enjoy your special day. Let us make your wedding just as magical as you've always dreamed of.

3. How far in advance do couples need to book your services?

Our normal booking window is 3-12 months prior to the wedding. This gives ample planning time and allows for us to prepare accordingly. With that said, we have successfully taken on weddings with less than 2 weeks notice. We will always work for our clients and bring our best to their special day.

4. What's your rate? What does that include?

Olson Entertainment prides its self on being a value option for our clients. We all know event costs can add up quickly and we want to be part of happy memory's instead of being a fiscal burden. While our rates are budget friendly, our service is top level.

We don't believe in marketing around packages. No two events are the same so why would the pricing be the same? We work on a flat hourly rate that is all inclusive, keeping it simple. We believe our pricing is comparable to many others out there and often lower and without all the hype.

Our rates and policy are as follows -

---Booking fee/deposit which includes date reservation, consultation/planning time before event, and setup and tear down time. Booking fee/deposit will be based on overall cost of event based on hourly rate.

---Hourly charge of $150 during event which includes all equipment needed for normal events. No extra charges for lights or microphones (can you believe some charge for such things).

---Special requests for items outside of normal scope or events needing equipment beyond our inventory will be negotiated at time of booking.

If funds are an issue feel free to contact us anyway. We have all been in tough places and we will work with you to make it happen. We are open to trade/barter for our services. We provide these options because we love doing this job, not to get rich.

5. Are you available to travel if needed?

Yes, we often travel for weddings with so many beautiful venues in Colorado. We are not opposed to travel outside of the state and would be happy to bring our skills and knowledge to any destination.

6. How would you describe your style?

We are proud to be easy to work with and provide great service without demanding exact timeline compliance and rigidity. We feel weddings need to flow organically and keeping things light and fun is more important than exact timing that sucks the fun out of your day.
Musically, we cater to you and your guests desires. We want everyone to have fun and enjoy the day.

7. What's your backup plan if there's an equipment malfunction? Do you bring backup equipment?

We travel with comparable backups to every item of equipment in our inventory.
In the unfortunate event of some failure we can, within a minute or two, be fully up and running again. We do try to avoid this scenario by testing all equipment prior to the wedding start time.

8. What's your sick day policy?

Being a husband and wife team allows us to have coverage in the event of unforeseen illness. In the event that both of us are sick we do have agreements with other DJ companies to provide coverage.

9. How do you motivate a shy crowd to dance? What do you do to motivate the crowd if nobody is dancing?

There are tried-and-true songs to get shy people out of their seats. We find these work is starters 90% of the time. One other trick we like to utilize is our request cards, that we put out on the tables. These are often filled out during the cocktail hour and meal times. These give us great insight into your guests music likes and allow us two play music that they will enjoy right from the get go.

10. What is your cancellation and/or refund policy?

While each case is unique, but our base policy is any monies paid prior to the cancellation are non-refundable. Unfortunately most cancellations occur close enough to the date that we are very unlikely to fill that spot again.
With that said, we will always work with our clients to try and move dates or postpone until another date is booked without any loss of monies paid.
