1. Introduction: What’s your story?
J. Major's Bridal Boutique has been a part of Charlotte's wedding community since 1984, and my husband Ravi and I took over ownership in January 2025. We're a true family business in every sense of the word, and that matters deeply to us. I wear a lot of hats here: co-owner, buyer, and designer, and being personally involved at that level means brides get real expertise, not a script. Our stylists Kelcie, Angelina, Georgia, Anna and Rylee have all been carefully chosen because they genuinely love this work, and it shows in the appointments they lead every single day.
We're tucked into Charlotte's South End neighborhood on South Boulevard, and this boutique has been saying yes to brides in this city for over 40 years. Ravi and I feel such a sense of responsibility to honor that history while also making it our own. When a bride walks through our door, she's walking into something that has mattered to this community for a very long time. That's not something we take lightly.
2. What makes your boutique unique?
A few things come to mind. The first is that I am the buyer and designer for this boutique. I'm not selecting gowns from a catalog with a distributor on the phone, I'm choosing each designer and each style with intention, based on what I know our brides actually want and what our market is missing. That kind of curatorial eye is something you won't find at a chain.
The second is our size range. We carry in-store samples in sizes 6 through 28, and we can special order gowns up to a size 32. That level of size inclusivity isn't universal in bridal, and we're proud of it.
And the third is simply our history. Forty-plus years in Charlotte means something. Brides come to us because their mothers or aunts came here before them. That legacy of trust is woven into everything we do.

3. What types of bridal styles and designers do you carry?
We carry a really thoughtful mix of designers that spans a wide range of aesthetics and price points. The Essense of Australia family of brands is a cornerstone of our collection, along with Jenny Yoo, Rosa Clará, La Premiere, Paloma Blanca, Mikaella, Antonio Gual, and a curated selection from Locket by Watters.
In terms of style, we have romantic and ethereal, sleek and modern, classic ballgowns, minimalist crepe, lace, and everything in between. I put a lot of care into making sure our floor reflects the full spectrum of what brides are dreaming of right now, and that no bride walks in and feels like her vision isn't represented.
4. What is the price range of your gowns?
Our gowns range from $1,200 to $6,500. We're transparent about that because we believe brides deserve to know what they're walking into before they ever fall in love with a dress. Within that range, there's a lot of variety, accessible and stunning options at the lower end, and truly special, intricate gowns at the top. Our stylists are skilled at helping brides find something they love within their actual budget, and we never want price to feel like something to be embarrassed about in our boutique.

5. How far in advance should brides start shopping for their wedding dress?
Ideally, we love to see brides about 10 to 12 months before their wedding date. Gowns are made to order, and the production timeline alone can take several months depending on the designer. Then you also need time for alterations, which is its own process. Starting early means you get to shop without pressure, which is how it should feel.
That said, life doesn't always unfold on a perfect timeline, and we've helped many brides find their gown with less runway. We'll always be honest about what's realistic and what options are available given the timeframe.
6. Do you offer private appointments or styling consultations?
Every appointment at J. Major's is private and personalized. You're not sharing the floor with strangers or competing for a stylist's attention. Your appointment is yours, and your stylist is focused entirely on you.
Our consultations are about listening first. We want to understand your vision, your venue, your wedding's overall feel, and what makes you feel most like yourself. From there, we pull gowns thoughtfully, we're not just grabbing everything in the building. The goal is for you to walk away feeling truly seen, not overwhelmed. We love when a bride comes in thinking she knows exactly what she wants and leaves with something she never expected to love. That happens more than you'd think.

7. What is your process for fittings and alterations?
Once a bride's gown arrives, we schedule her pick-up day so she can try it on and see it for the first time in-house. From there, we connect brides with trusted local alterations professionals for any adjustments needed. We have wonderful referral partners we've worked with for years and trust completely.
Brides should budget between $500 and $900 for alterations and bustle combined. That range accounts for the variation in how much work is needed, every gown and every body is different. We're transparent about this upfront so there are no surprises later in the process.
8. Do you carry accessories as well?
We do carry a selection of accessories to help brides begin to envision the full picture. There's something special about putting on a veil or a piece of jewelry with a gown for the first time, it changes the way you see everything. Our accessories help make that moment even more complete during the appointment.

9. What happens if a bride needs a dress on a shorter timeline?
We work through it together and are honest every step of the way. Some of our designers do offer rush production, which we can explore depending on the timeline. Off-the-rack samples are another option, we carry samples in sizes 6 through 28, and sometimes the right dress is already here and ready to go.
The most important thing is that a bride in a time crunch doesn't have to figure this out alone. We've navigated shorter timelines before, and we know how to move quickly without making anyone feel panicked. Come in, tell us what you're working with, and we'll find a path forward.
10. What is your cancellation, return, or exchange policy?
Because wedding gowns are custom-ordered to the bride's measurements and specifications, all sales are final. This is standard in the bridal industry, and we take care to explain it clearly before any order is placed. We want every bride to feel completely confident in her decision before she signs anything.
If circumstances change, we're always willing to have a conversation. We're a family business, and we approach every situation with care and humanity. We're not going to be rigid for the sake of it. What we can and can't do will depend on where things stand in the production process, but we'll always treat brides the way we'd want to be treated.
