10 Questions with Anna Matson

1. Introduction: What's your story?

Hey! My name is Anna. So why is my business named Piper Boudoir? Well Piper is actually my Siberian Husky that is my child.

Unlike others, I did not grow up wanting to be a photographer. I know, shocking. When my husband and I were getting married, we had an AWFUL experience with a wedding photographer. Luckily, we cut ties after the engagement session and found a new team. With all of the stress from that situation, I self taught myself how to use a camera. I did a few photoshoots and everyone loved their experience even before seeing their images. So I had something. I continued to work on my craft and started seeing things about boudoir photography. Once I did some boudoir sessions, I knew that was my happy place.

2. What is your experience shooting boudoir?

I have been capturing boudoir photography for three years. Everyone is always stunned to find that out. I am such a fast learner and I grew my business in such a short time. I've always been a very artsy person so I really just had to learn how to transition my art from clay and paint, to a camera.

3. Where will the photo shoot take place?

Holly, MI

4. How should customers prepare for the Boudoir photo shoot?

I do most of the work so clients don't have to! When clients book, they start to get emails reminding them of some last minute things. For example, if you shave its always good to freshen up and put some lotion on. Also, stretching can really help since poses can be a workout! Other than that, I take care of everything!

5. Will there be a hairstylist and make-up artist?

Yes! We have a professional hair and makeup artist here for every session. She will get you as glammed or as natural as you want. We never want you feeling like you don't even recognize yourself. We try to enhance what you have.

6. What do you do to make your customers feel comfortable for the shoot?

I am in constant communication with clients before and after the session. I text a couple days prior to the session to answer any last minute questions. I also text the morning of with parking instructions and any last minute things. Then we start with professional hair and makeup that just feels like girls time! Once that is done, we have already got to know each other really well. Clients always say they were shocked how comfortable they were the whole time!

7. Are pictures printed or do you provide a digital file?

I offer digital images, albums, and wall art. Albums are the most popular so you can have something to really cherish forever. I find digital images sit on a phone album and never get looked at. I typically take between 90-120 pictures total and you decide how many you want to keep from there!

8. What happens on the day?

We have an all women's team! When you show up, my dogs love to greet you first! We have option mimosas or sparkling cider if wanted. Then we go to the studio and start with professional hair and makeup. The artist will ask questions to see how glam or natural you will want. Then we look at outfits whether you bring your own, want to use the ones I have, or both! Then we jump into the photoshoot. At this point you are feeling pampered and great. I go through each and every pose first to show you. Then you will get in it and if something is out of place, I just move you or it lol. Super stress free!

9. Where will the photographs be used?

I never, ever, ever (repeat ever), use your photos online unless you specifically tell me it's ok. I even have a contract you sign to confirm that you are allowing me to use your images. This way, there are never any surprises. Your comfort is my top priority!

10. What is your cancellation and/or refund policy?

I always try to work with clients if they need to reschedule. I know life happens. I do not offer refunds since I have to pay for hair and makeup once the session is booked. However, you only loose out on the small retainer. You never have to pay for your products until after you see and pick out your final images.
